Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2017/2018

  • USC Münster adds 18 year old OPP Liza Kastrup to their roster. Actually they signed her for 3 years starting from next season but due to the injuries she is already with the team now. She is from their own youth and played and studied the last year in the USA.

  • Dresden vs. VCO became the expected lame joke, three set win for hosts in just 63 minutes. Because of the inviting time of the year nevertheless more than 2.500 spectators attended in Margon Arena (!).

Potsdam played better than at last, but was defeated by Aachen nevertheless in tie-break with 13:15. But they tied two times after losing sets one and three, so they were certainly stronger now than at end of 2017.

  • Aachen should have won 0-3...they were leading 11-20 in 2nd set... :wall: :wall:

Bongaerts and Adams have a great connection.

Oude Luttikhuis is a disaster. She is by far Aachen's worst player every match..The polish girl really deserves to start, but until now van Hintum prefers Oude Luttikhuis

  • Two major surprises today: Schwerin lost at home in tie break against Vilsbiburg, similar to the match against Stuttgart they managed to block the champions a lot, which was a key factor for the unexpected outcome. Münster went down in Erfurt also in tie-break (they are still trailing the table) likely due to the season out of Lena Vedder, which harms them a lot. They made way too many mistakes... Wiesbaden won in Meiningen against Suhl, but as we have seen, you should take nothing for granted in this league, which is a true fighting zone.

  • Due to poor results VfB Suhl has fired Han Abbing. New head coach until the end of the season will be the previous assistant coach and scout Mateusz Zarczynski.

That is the official statement, I can not believe it is true: it is not the head coachs fault, if the club can't afford a competetive roster. And nobody can expect an exploit against Wiesbaden even not "at home" in Meiningen, because Wiesbaden is definitely the better team. If it is not a complete lie, there may other reasons behind the decision.

  • The most interesting one could be Vilsbiburg vs. Aachen. But this is just guessing of course...

  • Yesterday evening some articles surfaced about plans of Volero Zürich (i.e. Stav Jacobi) to shift their team into one of the two stronger neighbor leagues: either to France and merge with Rocheville Le Cannet to a new team dubbed Volero Le Cannet or to the German Bundesliga, they didn't mention a name here.

But considering the circumstances, I'm convinced, that the German team they negotiate with is Allianz MTV Stuttgart (I have no confirmation about that from inner circles, but this seems to be strictly non-public in this state, not to stir things unncessary - Le Cannet has better chances anyway, it seems).

Anyway, if Jacobi with Volero does this, he intends to prepare better and win the CL in the mid-range planning. What requires to create kind of monster club ruling its league of course like Cannes did in France for many years. Should this happen in Germany, especially with Stuttgart, our Swabian capital team would be no more much liked elsewhere, when they begin to suppress even Schwerin and Dresden consequently, not to mention the other than-victims.

The decision shall be made in 4 to 6 weeks:

  • Remember that due to VBL's wild card it doesn't necessarily have to be a club that is currently in 1st league, they might as well buy some small team and make big investments or try a similar project like Hypo Tirol in men's league.
But I am pretty sure it will be Le Cannet. They already are SB Community's team in France. The question is how much French federation will like that, after all Le Cannet just got a punishment due to irregularities this season.

The existence of suitable halls at the teams location is a serious limitatation for German teams generally - we have very few such locations. Volero needs an existing suitable venue infrastructure for this approach. This exists in Stuttgart, but nearly nowhere else, at least not for realistic partners. Dresden and Schwerin would never agree to such a construct for example.

    Tomorrow Münster-Dresden and VCO-Schwerin.

  • Some newspapers refer to a planned quota for German players currently: for example Suhl would become immediately illegal when introduced, because there is currently NONE German player in the available roster (Claudia Steger, the German captain, is out for the whole season due to injury), i.e. they would get no license for the first league anymore at all. This is an old issue especially with Suhl, where hardly ever more than 2 Germans were in its roster. But also for Stuttgart this would be tricky now, while possible, even with only one required currently either Pia Kästner or Julia Schäfer would be necessarily on court. IMHO such a rule doesn't make much sense, if not at least two Germans have to be on court for each team at any time, by the way. And this shakes already very strongly the conditions for the Bundesliga teams. - In a few months the results of the working group in this regard should be published.
