Japan - V.Premier League 2014-2015

  • The First Matchday is today and tomorrow, but we've got results from today's matches.
Denso Airybees 0-3 Okayama Seagulls (24-26, 21-25, 23-25) Mia Jerkov (Denso) 25, Aki Kawabata (Okayama) 18
    Hisamitsu Springs 3-2 Toray Arrows (25-27, 25-17, 19-25, 27-25, 15-13) Miyu Nagaoka (Hisamitsu) 27, Yuki Ishii (Hisamitsu) 20, Saori Sakoda (Toray) 26

  • Denso Airybees result is such a huge surprise to me. Ishida, Jerkov, Otake, Inoue and Sano (is she playing?) vs Miyashita and Yamaguchi. I expected more fight at least.

  • Checking PDF file with stats I must admit that there are some mistakes in numbers by Denso: Sano is 10, Nabeya is 15, Otake is 12, R. Ishii is 5, Izuoka is 1, Jerkov is 88, Saki Mashiba is 7 and Aya Horie is 16 ^^

Denso played with Suzuki as S, Nabeya as receiving OP, Izuoka and Jerkov as OHs (Mia as non-receiving), Risa Ishii and Inoue as MBs and Sano as L :wavy:
Subs were Mashiba, Otake and Aya Horie.

  • kondzio : the shirt number is true, Sano is 10 Mia is 88 :D
I expect Denso could fight more, but their setter(no.6) is very terrible. She never read the game! She always set the ball to position 2 with the same tempo, very low ball. And this doesn't work! In third set Denso was leading 23-20, I thought at least they could take this set. But the setter set 3(or 4) times to MB(slide attack in position 2), non of them turn into Denso's score! Why she kept setting that kind of ball, she could set to others :aww: . Mia at that moment was unstoppable, but she didn't get any ball.

  • Okayama Seagulls is always a good team. No matter they lost their star player on the paper (Kurihara), they are still there as good as always. 3-0 over Toray Arrows is impressive.

Toray should hire a foreign MB IMHO.

For Toray, Araki had been the captain with both Saori Kimura and Sakoda on the team. I love Saori, but I don't think that she is a leader compared to Araki. Toray probably expected to compete at a higher level with her return. The season is still young and with the playoffs now meaning you only have to finish in the top 6, you can take it slow in the season build up. I don't know what kind of foreign player they could get. Sakoda's playing as the opposite, Arisa Takada is the other all-around, Azusa Futami and Nozomi Itoh (MB), Nakamichi (Tashiro as backup) is the setter and Kodaira is the libero. Mari Horikawa has been put in for Nakamichi in the front row in some matches. In two matches the setter has provided 1 point, 1 block, 0 kills or 0 aces. I think that the need some time. We'll see where they are after the first pass through on the teams.

Okayama has done a good job of picking up good players and younger players. Players in Japan do not move as frequently as they do in other countries, so finding good talent coming out of high school or college can make a big difference. Plus, Okayama has to wise in their spending because they are not owned by a company. With Okayama having seen Meg's injuries over the last two years, they felt that "we gave her a chance to get back in shape and then had another injury. We can't have her not playing." and that is why she was released.
