    Places 9-12

  • Very disappointing performance from Russia and Holland. On the other hand, Italy and Serbia are likely going to play for the gold medal match.
Italy has improved their height with a couple of players above 2.00m...... impressive :what:

  • Quaterfinals
    Belgium - Ukraine 3:0 (25:20, 25:17, 25:15)
    Serbia - Turkey 3:0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:23)
    Hungary - Slovakia 1:3 (25:18, 23:25, 23:25, 23:25)
    Italy - Germany 3:0 (25:19, 25:20, 25:17)

  • Somewhat unexpected results. :S Hopefully this means there are new nations emerging in European volleyball.

I'm very glad that Serbia is doing consistently well on youth level, but if the stats are to believed, we have yet another generation that is incapable of receiving serve.

On this level the "big" nations of European volley almost never have big success, e.g. Russia, Netherlands, Poland; and the teams who play well on this level, e.g. Belgium, often don't succeed in transferring that success to senior level.

And concerning reception, absolutely ALL teams which I have watched suck big time in reception!!!

  • Well, yeah, I realize it it's too much to hope that Slovakia or Belgium will become new powerhouses of volleyball, but perhaps it will lead to at least somewhat more competitive competitions in the future, if they keep improving. But that's a big if.

Talking about reception, Serbia had 19 aces against Greece (in a straightforward 3-set match). I shudder to think what was going on in that match and how it looked like.

  • The Belgian girls write history and clinch the first European title ever for their country

    2. Serbia
    3. Italy
    4. Slovakia
    5. Turkey
    6. Germany
    7. Hungary

  • Interesting. I'm curious of these Belgian girls future. As it was said above, Belgium won't be rather a real power now, but may to make some changes in European wide top in the future.
