  • i can not find any information about Britt Bongaerts :what:

  • I can imagine, because she is still very young and doesn't even play in DELA-League.

Her birthdate is 3-11-1996, so she celebrates today :!: her 16th birthday :) She seems to be a very promising, tall setter. She trains 16 hours a week with the National Youth Team at the National Training Centre, Papendal and 2 hours a week at her club Peelpush.

Here is an interview with her (in Dutch)

  • THX,dear :rose:

I hope some tall OH can be in the list

And why Kathy Bonsen is out?

And do u think Van Dalean have a chance to be back to NT as a MB?

  • I presume Kathy Bonsen is not in the list because she is very busy with school/study.

I don't think Deborah will return to NT as MB in near future...because she now plays as Opp..and there are enough MBs in NT now.

EDIT: I am myself worried about OH-position...there are no tall, promising OHs in Dutch League at the moment...

  • I forgot Celeste Plak :aww: :aww:

She is very talented!!! She plays now as OH, for Alterno. She can also play Opp.

    Only one?

De Kruijf are not good enough,so Jeanine and Van Dalean should try, also Pietersen can back to MB,let Moniek Jansen play as OPP

Some OH that can use in near future:

Anne Buijs Lonneke Sloetjes Celeste Palk

Kathy Bonsen Ester de Vries Angelique Vergeer Debby Stam

    Maret Grothues

    Maybe Moneik Jansen can receive

Somehow this seems to be a general tendency, not just in the Netherlands. I think one reason is a too early specialisation. All the tall girls either become MB or Opp very early in their career, so they don't really learn to receive. The shorter girls who receive well and are just about tall enough to attack (instead of playing libero or setter) then play as OH, but often they are quite weak attackers. It's exactly the same situation in Germany, there are no young tall OHs in sight :S

  • I mean young, tall, very talented OHs, having the potential for starting-six of NT... yes, at the moment only Celeste Plak. Vermeulen called also Angelique Vergeer (she is not tall and already 24 years old) and Ester van Berkel (she is only 1.75m)...

About the MBs: I agree with you: I would try Pietersen and van Daelen again as MB, because I think MB is their best position, but I am not the NT-headcoach...

    Exactly.

I agree with you and Vermeulen saying at the highest international level you need tall OHs..(or excellent jumpers, but they don't exist in Europe)..in that perspective Vermeulen wants Sloetjes to play OH because Dutch NT lacks tall OHs (except Sloetjes and Buijs).

  • Bonsen, de Vries, Vergeer, Stam and Grothues simply lack height (and power)

Guidetti says exactly the same, since several years he says his job is to find "another Hanka Pachale" (the last tall OH Germany had), but there simply are none like her. I guess this is one reason why he insists on Maren Brinker since many years, even though she was not a really big talent back then, at least she is more or less tall and powerful, and by now she has become a quite good player. Another player of her type instead of Beier/Matthes would help NT a lot...

I hope in the long run Buijs and Sloetjes can be the main OHs for Dutch NT, but reception is the most difficult thing in volleyball, so it's possible they will never become great receivers. On the other hand, when Caprara coached Russia NT he turned Godina into a receiver and she did well enough to become World Champion  So nothing is impossible!

Agree. The taller, the more difficulties in reception. Buijs and Sloetjes will never become excellent receivers, but the big advantage is that good hitters can also kill difficult sets (caused by their own bad recpetion). :)

If you are not Russian or Cuban it is really hard to compensate lack of reception. (one has very tall and powerful attacker and the latter can jump crazy) Especially in Europe, there are plenty of good server teams so that one team need to have at least one solid receiver. For our case Gözde or Esra with Neriman as OHs works very well.

For Germany, I think having good receivers is more crucial since they have very good scorer MBs, however more strong and taller Opp would be very beneficial instead of Kozuch. She is so depend on quick sets whereas an Opp is generally expected to kill hard balls
