Germany - DVL 1. Bundesliga 2013/14

  • Definetly not a good draw, because it was made in infraction to the rules of the Pokalspielordnung (cup play regulations) source (PDF, german) DOL for the next cup round have to be made publicly in connection with a cup match of the ongoing cup round (paragraph 3.1 and 3.2) and definetly not in the office of the DVL.

Not to mention that a "cup" competition draws quite a lot of its attractiveness from the fact, that also smaller team have a chance to advance to the finals. So even if this DOL would have been made within the regulations I would not consider it as a good draw. If you want the top 4 teams in the semis, you can play a tournament and put aside the other rounds. ;)

Yeah well, the fact that the DOL this year was made behind closed doors was indeed a bit strange, and after all, the fact that the top 3 teams from last season do not face each other is quite convenient
On the other hand, I as a neutral fan want to see a high level final match, and last year with Wiesbaden in there it was not that good, and Schwerin had eliminated their strongest contender in QF already. And "small" teams still have the chance to advance to the final, they just need to beat a big team ;)

  • Greetings from the CU Arena in Hamburg, where fortunately the loudest part of the gelbe Wand has positioned itself as far away from me as possible :woohoo:

Even more injuries today :white: :white: :white: Liana Mesa has an ankle injury, she already didn't play in Cup match on Wednesday. Cristina Alves missed that one too because of knee problems and today could play only a bit, and with Hagglund and Miyashiro being in USA NT, Vilsbiburg was without many options and lost their first match of the season. Potsdam lost Nikola Radosova with a knee injury during the match (she had to be carried off the court, apparently it's the same as what happened to Hippe last week :white: ). Wiesbaden lost Martina Viestova with an injury, Aachen lost Jordanne Scott with an injury, and according to the match report sheet, Ashley Benson got an ankle injury during Münster's match but she still played the full match so probably it was nothing serious.

Münster continues to surprise, Thüringen continues to disappoint. All other results are rather "normal". Next matches on Wednesday, but hopefully no more injuries    Potsdam is now without option to make any susbtitution at OH/OPP :white:

  • sb knows what exactly happened to Radosova? :white:

  • sb knows what exactly happened to Radosova? :white:

She'll have medical exams in the next days, but from the sound of it, it's a very bad knee injury. She came down bad after an attack and didn't get up again, she had to be carried off the court on such a thing that the emergency uses (don't know the word in English...).

    EDIT: This thing:

Martina Viestova also has a knee injury, also no details yet...
EDIT 2: Viestova felt pain in her patella tendon after a bad movement, but probably it's nothing serious. She'll have MRI tomorrow anyway...

  • ok thx, bad week for Slovak girls

  • It's called a stretcher… And I'm pretty shocked that they didn't have one for Hippe

I guess it doesn't really belong to the standard equipment of a gym...

Anyway it's just 4 weeks into the season and we already have a remarkable number of injured players in the league :white:
Schwerin: Anja Brandt (shoulder), Saskia Hippe (knee), both probably out for the whole season
Dresden: Jaroslava Pencova (ankle), Becky Perry is back now after a thigh injury
Vilsbiburg: Liana Mesa (ankle), Cristina Alves (knee), Tama Miyashro (back) - all of it not so serious but they all missed a match
Wiesbaden: Ksenija Ivanovic (shoulder surgery in summer)
Stuttgart: Lindsay Stalzer was still recovering from an injury at the beginning of the season and is back now
Münster: Sina Fuchs (knee), Louisa Lippmann (shoulder) - both recovering from old injuries
Potsdam: Lucia Fresco (shoulder), Nikola Radosova (knee), Josephine Dörfler (?), Nikolina Jelic had a knee injury against Dresden but is playing again, Fresco is out for several months and I expect Radosova too...
Köpenick: Pia Riedel and Patricia Grohmann have injuries at the moment, no further info
Thüringen: Martina Utla missed one match with a shoulder injury
Aachen: Jordanne Scott got injured yesterday, no further info yet...

In my opinion those are quite enough injuries for a full season :S

  • Nikola Radosova came back during the match on crutches and was sitting behind Potsdam´s bench. At first, the look on her face said, that it hurts, but when she sat down she was smiling and had fun with some kids behind her in the stands.

I really hope it's not so serious :S

And after just 5 matches, we already have the first fired coach, and of course Mister Super Manager Lobmüller from Stuttgart is responsible for it    He says: It was a mistake to sign Gil Ferrer Cutino as head coach. He can't communicate well with the team because he speaks only Spanish and bad German, he has a bad relationship with Stalzer and Pavan (yeah right, that must be the reason why Pavan came to Stuttgart together with Gil :wall: ), the team says he's disorganised and badly prepared, and after the Potsdam match Gil said that his assistant coach was responsible for the substitutions that changed the match in Stuttgart's favor. That's Lobmüller's version (article)

Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez who was assistant coach so far has been promoted to head coach now, and Hector Gutierrez Hernandez will become assistant coach.

Michela Teixeira also isn't in Stuttgart's roster anymore, probably her shape was not good enough for them to spend money on her

  • Next injury :wall: Michelle Bartsch is out 3-4 weeks with an ankle injury, so Vilsbiburg is down to 7 healthy players for the match tomorrow in Münster :white: But also Münster has 3 players with some problems...

For Potsdam, there is no news yet about Radosova, but she definitely won't play tomorrow. On the other hand, Dörfler might return on court tomorrow...

  • As expected, Nikola Radosova has exactly the same injury as Saskia Hippe (torn ACL and meniscus damage) and will be out the whole season ;(
She'll have a first knee surgery this week and another one later.

    Chemnitz - Vilsbiburg
Setter of Chemnitz is Pia Walkenhorst, she was OH/OPP and one of the best players of 92/93 generation but she can't play as attacker anymore after knee and shoulder injuries, so now she's a 1.93 tall setter :white:

    Wiesbaden - Schwerin
