17th VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup (August 19-26, 2023)

  • Vietnam 2 played well. They have a solid lineup with youngsters (OH Phuong Thuy, Setters Yen Nhi & Ngoc Tram) as well as more experienced players like OP Nguyet Anh, OH Dinh Thuy, MBs Le Thuy & Bich Thuy, Lib Thanh Lien. But you can see they’ve not practiced as a team long enough to play smooth volleyball like the Vietnam teams at SEA Vleague. This team, with the help of superstars like OP Tra My & OH Nguyen Thi Uyen, could give Vietnam 1 a run for their money.

Try My...the youngster we talked about previously was playing against Suwon City ?!!!

nope. She couldn’t be participate because she just finished playing in the youth championship. Uyen also had to miss for unknown reasons. The two of them would have definitely earned their spots in NT.

  • This Australian team is different from the young team that played in the AVC Cup recently... Volleyball Australia added 4 experienced players to strengthen the team for the VTV Cup and Asian Women's Volleyball C'ships later. The players are:

    -no.13 Beth Carey

    -no.22 Rebecca Regden

    -no.24 Khiani Dodd

    - no.6 Stefanie Weiler

Beth, Rebecca and Khiani are currently playing in set 1.

  • I was hoping a strong Oz side could challenge V1 but it didn't happen.

Height and blocking have always been their strengths, but you can only do so much with a team like Vietnam if you can’t pass that well and serve tough. They had some good moments, tho, and it seemed like they have tried to minimize unforced errors.

4T could do a sweep of MB, OP,OH and MPV to boot if she is keen :|

    don't forget Miss volleyball

  • The Vietnam lineup in 3rd set against Choco Mucho played with so much joy i can’t

Impressed by 19 yo libero Ca Thi Tu. She looks so much like Khanh Dang it’s hard to tell who’s playing lol

I need to see more of 21 yo OH Thuy Vi to know what to make of her. She was a bench player at her club so it was a mystery why she got a spot on VN1 roster.

Thoa’s setting has been stellar, especially with better passing from this team. It’s amazing what she can do for the MBs and OPs, and her sets to the back row attack are also pretty solid.

  • Vietnam 2 is created for just the VTV Cup right ? and Vietnam 1 will participate in the Asian C’ships and Asian Games ? Will Anh return to the first team, or is her spot taken by the opposite Xuan, currently playing for Vietnam 1 ? :/

    probably

VN 2 will be disbanded after VTV Cup, and it’s very likely that Nguyet Anh, Bich Thuy and perhaps either MB Pham Thi Hien or Le Thanh Thuy too will join Vietnam NT (MB Tra Giang will return to her club after VTV Cup). Nguyet Anh has been solid in SEA Vleague, and performed very well as OP at VTV Cup. I can see her play OH/OP or just defense/serving specialist depending on the match. Youngster Thuy Vi is promising but Vietnam badly needs Nguyet Anh’s good passing and serves. Dinh Thi Thuy may compete for Nguyet Anh’s spot, but she’s not as versatile and has not played with the main NT squad.

Outside of that group, I don’t see any VN2 girls getting promoted to NT.

Perhaps Coach Keat will take a closer look at these two teams when they meet in the group stage and SF (almost assured) or dare I say, in the Final even
