17th VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup (August 19-26, 2023)

  • The 17th Edition, VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup will take place at Lào Cai, Vietnam from August 19-26, 2023. The VTV Cup is an annual event in Vietnam, with the inaugural tournament in 2004. However between 2020 and 2022 the event was cancelled due to Covid-19 and SEA Games 2021 (which was held in 2022) It is an interesting tournament that used to feature, among other things, a Miss VTV contest and an evening gala dinner.

    THE TEAMS:

    1. Vietnam 1st National Team

    2. Vietnam 2nd National Team

    3. Mongolia National Team

    4. Australia National Team

  • :super:

  • Regarding the Choco Mucho (PHI) roster... They are somewhat of a bottom team in the Philippine league, but with a lot of fans. The player to watch out for is Cherry "Sisi" Rondina. She just got back to playing indoor volleyball, as she is a Beach Volleyball National Team player of the Philippines (played in the last 3 SEA Games for beach). She just joined Choco Mucho indoor team in the recent PVL Conference (June 2023), but she is the expected top scorer of this team. Short but a very high leaper, dynamic power spiker. She's fun to watch :dance6:

I like Sisi as well, reminds me a lot of Medi Yoku of Indonesia; short but powerful.

  • Sad news: an official-looking document has been shared on the internet stating Mongolia won’t be able to participate. The organizers will adjust the match schedule as a result. ;(

  • Hey, What's the dang deal of a difference with these two tournaments as listed on volleybox. They are listed as happening at the same time this year with the same teams (a little difference with the Korean team). They also have different histories:

VTV9 – Binh Dien International Cup

    VTV International Volleyball Cup

I think one of them must be dang dealed out of there

Also, although this is something wacko about vBox you might nit want to wade into, but shouldn't this one be 2023–24? Or are they pulling a FISU 2021 type dang deal because of cancellations?

[EDIT] So, methinks whoever added the competition for the VTV9 dang deal just goofed. Should probably delete that one, eh?

  • One more dang deal is the English Wiki page has Kansai University of Social Welfare as the "Kansai" club. I followed the references and they say something like 'Kansai University Club (Japan)' or just Kansai University

Kansai University and Kansai University of Social Welfare are different dang deals. How to get to the bottom of this dang deal?

[EDIT] It's Kansai University of Social Welfare that is participating

  • They’re separate tournaments. VTV Binh Dien Cup usually takes place earlier in the year (Feb-May, so I don't think it will happen this year) while VTV Cup is usually in August. Binh Dien Cup is mostly hosted in southern and central/highlands provinces, while VTV Cup is mostly hosted in northern provinces. VTV Cup has more popularity, but in recent editions, Binh Dien Cup has featured stronger teams.

There’s another tournament called Hoa Lu - Binh Dien Cup just for top Viet clubs.

Yes, should be 23-24 (or, just 2023).

  • This is a 1:00am - 3:00am - 5:00am dang deal for me :(

  • FORMAT:

    Round robin between the 7 teams. Top 1 & 2 teams play for 1st place, 3 & 4 play for 3rd place, 5 & 6 play for 5th place. (24 matches in total)

Looks like they are doing a SF now betwixt top 4 teams?
