Red Sparks & Hillstate managed to retain most of their FA players rather than signing from other clubs and will not suffer loss from compensation players as of now

GS lost 2 of their FA players, but will gain 2 compensation players

IBK will have to be prepared to lose 2 players and rebuild their roster with the signing of 2 FA players from other clubs

OHs (of note) yet to have their Free Agency announced:

Pink Spiders - Kim Miyeon (OH)

    (and a few others)

More importantly, are two of the main setters in the league entering Free Agency:

    Pink Spiders- Lee Wonjeong (S)

    IBK - Kim Hakyung (S)

Though there is Pornpun and 2 other setters in the Asia Quarter tryout, after Megawati's performance in Red Sparks last season as well the expansion of the draft to more Asian countries (incl China)

I feel that more clubs will look towards recruiting strong OHs rather than Setters in the Asian Quarter tryouts, hence the domestic setter position will be crucial for teams.

While Pink Spiders desperately need to strengthen their roster with an OH, they missed out on signing both Lee Soyoung & Kang Sohwi in the FA market, and lost Lee Juah as well.

While they could target to gain a compensation player from IBK, they need to focus on retaining Lee Wonjeong & Kim Miyeon now.

Though getting Pornpun as a setter in the AQ draft is a possibility, it seems more likely that Pink Spiders will need a stronger OH if they wish to pursue championships with KYK

  • Also, call me wishful but I'm still hoping there will be a club with the guts to sign with Lee Jaeyeong (OH) this season 🥺

I became a fan during her era of v-league and still miss it though it's been 3 years now since she's been suspended

Since its been so many years she's been away from the competitive scene, her competitive readiness and fitness will definitely be questionable, but her ability as OH and carry ability in the league was unrivalled.

AI Peppers almost signed her in 2022/23 but backed out due to public backlash and there was no news in 2023/24.

Hopefully for 2024/25 but... frankly it seems unlikely

  • I miss Lee JY... she has the 'killer instinct' and really made a difference in Korea's attacking line-up. It's interesting that when I watched Jeong Jiyun of Hyundai play, I wondered if she could become like LJY. They are of similar height and both have a reasonably good reach and can hit quite hard...

But yes, it would be wonderful if LJY can join a club and play in Korea again :/

I miss Jaeyeong too. Its ridiculous that she still cannot play... If not at KOVO then at least at some other league.

Unfortunately, Jeong Jiyun is not a very good receiver. Its one of her biggest weakness as well as her shaky mentality. She hasn't shown the ability to lead in scoring when it matters. Right now only Kang Sowhi and Lee Sooyoung are the Korean players I can see that have that "grit".

I honestly felt that Jeong Jiyoon would have been a good OPP with her power and jump, if not that at least MB was working fine for her

But she switched to OH to fill the gap in NT and to fill another position in Hillstate/league since there were many good MBs but few good OHs (in Hillstate, Hyojin & Dahyun took up starting position for MB, whereas OPP for entire league all went to foreigners)

When she switched it was such a ??? moment for me since... her receives can't make it

  • Pink Spiders signed with their remaining FA players Kim Miyeon (OH) & Lee Wonjeong (S), and recruited Choi Eunji (OH) from GS Caltex (source)

Since Choi Eunji is Tier B, GS will not receive a compensation player from Pink Spiders

In another article, Park Eunjin (MB) from Red Sparks shared that though she did get higher offers from other clubs in the FA market, she chose to remain at Red Sparks due to team chemistry and coordination with setter Yeum Hyeseon (source)

We can definitely guess which are the other clubs which would have been interested in her

Hmm... I think Choi Eunji is OK. She's definitely better when she played for Red Sparks (KGC) before. She's pretty much benched when she played for GS.

  • I think Hakyung is a stable enough setter for IBK (obviously not as good as Pornpun), but with their lack of OH depth, they may assign their Asian quarter pick to an OH position.

It's alright because aside from Kim Dain (and some may include Yeum as well), none of the other setters in the league are that fantastic and pretty much thereabouts :cheesy:

Pornpun won't be getting 1st draft pick this year (with players like Megawati and more countries included), but I wonder if any team will still go for a foreign setter.

I can only think of Pink Spiders since they have KYK, but as with all teams, getting a OH would be more beneficial

  • It sounds like Kim Hochul IBK plans on renewing with Abercrombie and Pornpun for the second season if they are willing (source)

Meanwhile it seems like Kim Hee Jin still has not recovered...

I personally feel she she won't be of help to the team as she is no longer efficient nor score much... not to mention her salary is high enough that IBK could have gotten another star player in place of her, perhaps some salary negotiation will be under way since she's not playing at all

Both are great addition to any teams but i though abercrombie wants to play in another league?
