European Championships 2009

  • Germany is a little suprise for Me. They might lost to France and not go to second round.

I think Russia win 3-0 against Holland and then if Poland win 3-0 Bulgaria will not go to semis.

  • not better than this one , Mathias

Poland - Bulgaria 3:2 or 2:3, we have better spikers and defense than Russia (they have only Gamova) and the best serve in this championship (see the statistics). If we don't make more mistakes than you the game will have a tiebreak

  • I know our chances are small but can you tell me what are the odds to get to the semis?

The Netherlands needs to beat Russia, and your NT must win with my ;)

  • Turkey- Azerbeycan 3-1

    Naz, 2 points. 2/1. 50% attack. 10 service in the 1 error, 1 point.

Nihan played great. 15 / 1 error. 67% of the headlines. 47% excellent headlines. (This elevated) Defenders took out the good balls.

Eda was not good today, took less top. Esra Naz chose today. Eda 8 sayı.12 / 3, 1 error, 3 blocks remain, 2 blocks. 25% attack percentage.

    Russia - Polonia 1-3

    26-24‚22-25‚22-25‚22-25

The Russians were in shock. Poland has achieved great things in his house. Bravo.

Gamova 22 points 56/21. 2 errors, 4 blocks, stay in, 1 block. 38% attack. No errors and the number 17 service. + 9 and has played. Performance is falling steadily. If you already have a low percentage of affected results.

    Belgium - Holland 1-3

    17-25‚19-25‚20-25

Netherlands has won all matches 3-0. Congratulations :win:

Frauke 4 points. 4 / 1% 25 Points of attacks and 3 blocks. 7 has 1 error in the service

Alice Blom did not play again

"Lo sbaglio più grande e quello di credere di aver vinto prima ancora di giocare la partita"

  • Kosheleva did not play well. I wonder why the coach keeps on putting Sheshenina and Safronova. Zhadan and Makarova should be playing instead similar to what happened in the Grand Prix. Sheshenina does not distribute the balls wo well.

  • Poland is definitely a favorite of game against Bulgaria. We should win it, although it is sport of course. But in fact, I'm worried about Holland-Russia much more  Why?
    1) Holland don't have to win it
    2) Russians need victory
    2) Even if Holland loses it, shall stay on the first place in the group
    3) Holland has been playing too good, didn't even lose a single set - some worse game may happen. When, if not against Russia?

Well, I hope I won't be right and Holland wins :) I also hope, that Dutch players don't have especially good memory: in 2007 Poland hadn't had to beat Holland in the last game, but did it - because of that Serbia qualified to the semis

P.S. If Croatia have beaten Spain last week, we would be in better situation right now.

  • Congratulations Poland ... :drink:
what's an amazing game for the girls. hope they can beat BULGARIA tonite and go into the semi-final with Netherlands
and also, hope Netherlands can beat Russia...
but i remember in WGP final 2009 and WGP Qualification game lat yr, Russia won both of them......

That's a good analysis, but you know what I think? If you had the chance to keep one of the favorite teams to win the tournament out of the semis, wouldn't you? :D
It's the same thing that happens today with Italy-Serbia. Italy doesn't need to win the game, Serbia needs it to reach the semis. In theory, Serbia should win. But I think Italian players know that Serbia is a dangerous team and, given they have the chance to keep them out, they will.
Of course, this is just a theory, maybe I'm wrong, but...that's what I'd do.

Plus, I've never seen a team purposefully lose a game. So far. :)

  • ROS ask Andrzej Niemczyk about it....But it turned out against him fortunetely.

  • Yes, I just saw the interview. De Carne is a very kind person and she hits like a man!

    YEAH

She is great in this tournament. She always takes a risk and doesn't give an easy balls to opponents. I like her very much

Hehe, I thought about the same thing :D Athens 2004 Olympic qualifications. Niemczyk sends second Polish squad against Azerbaijan and loses the game easly. Because of that, Poland plays Turkey instead Italy in the semifinal and... loses it as well

Oh, ok, I didn't know about that. :S
I'm too naive. My bad. :D

  • I saw interview with Caroline Wenisk and she sad " we help you( Poland)" I hope so.

I think we win today 3:0 :cup:

  • I really wonder why do almost all teams show their best matches agaist Russia? Belgium, Spain, now Poland...
I don't have an exact answer on this question.
Considering yesterday's match I should say that Russia continued to show low level volleyball.
Disaster in reception.I really smiled after Makowski words: "The Russians didn't play bad at all. They had a good reception, but we were extremely good today." Russia had 11 errors in reception and 57% positive and 14% excellent reception. C'mon Piotr, you call that good reception?
One attacker. As all of guys said nowadays Gamova can't win matches alone as it was in previous years. (however she won OG qualification against Poland, Sokolova was in bad shape in that game). I don't know what happened to Kosheleva in this match. She was completely helpless. Yeah, Poles played very good againts her, but according to statistics, she's among (if not the best) best spikers of this tournament. She was the best spiker of WGP. And she played against strong teams like Brazil, China,Netherlands and Germany... I have no explanation for such play of her.
Luck and silly mistakes. Russia made tons of silly mistakes. Sometimes they played like amateurs and it was really disgusting to watch. On the contrary, Poles were lucky in many moments.. with ball touching the net and always falling to Russia side, and some other moments, but as we know luck follows the best one.
Defence. As usual Russia is zero. It was really nice to see Mariola's defence. Poland played 100 times better in defence.
Block. Russia lost even in this component. I give my credit to Poles, they were blocking quite good.
So, overall Poland played better in all components and they deserved to win, they were better team in this match.
What worries me more is Russia's preparation for this season. I'am not 100% sure but I think that Kuzutkin might made the same mistake like Selinger did in 2007. Holland won WGP and then played not so well in ECH and failed to reach semi-finals.
Nobody expected but Russia almost won WGP 2009 (leading 14-12 in the fifth set against Brazil) and got silver medal. They played ok against good teams. And what do we see now? Low level volleyball with one attacker no reception at all, no defence... etc... Don't know what to think, really.
    About match Russia - Holland.
I'm 100% sure that Holland will play with their main players and will play as they did in all previous matches. First of all, there are no teams that feel good after loss even if they did it for purpose. I can't remember big tournaments when there were such examples, except for WCH 2002 when China lost matches to Greece and smb else not to face Russia or USA in semi-finals. In the long run, they lost to Italy in semi and to Russia in bronze medal match. So, you see, these "games" almost always turn out of you. Then, Holland lost to Russia in WGP qualification 0:3 (9,19,17) and in the final of WGP 0:3 (20,23,21). Of course they want revenge, of course they will fight till the end to prove that they can beat Russia. Moreover, none coach wants his team to lose sport tone. They are on fire, crashing all teams by 3:0, why all of sudden lose Russia? No way guys.
I reckon that Russia will lose this match and will be out of competition and it will be the repeat of 2003 (Russia 5th place). From one hand girls already did unbelievable work, they won WGP silver medal!!! From the other hand, of course I'd like to see them higher than 5th place.
But even if they were able to reach last four, they'd be on the 4th place. So, the difference is not that big.

One more thing I've noticed. There are some many aces on this tourmanent. Almost all teams serve only floats. I can't remember any tournament that float serves made reception sooo weak. I've seen many matches thanks to IPLA  and was really surprised... What do you guys think on this situation? Why do all teams have not good reception?

  • Thank you Nick,
It was one of the best post on forum ! :obey:
I agree totally see one of my previous post :

ECH has just started - don't forget !

I saw so many championship where favourites played excellent games till
semi-final and from the other side young team played better game by
    game.

Of course for me the best (and more balanced) team up to now is Italy !
    unquote

It was posted after group stage - up to now - Serbia is out, Turkey plays much better and Germany even better, Russia had problems with Spain. Netherlands is still good however each set against Belgium was terrible till second Time Out

Netherlands can't use second squad today - one day off for key players may be very costly - lack of medal !
Such team needs good performance during the whole tournament see their game WGP against Japan.
