  • Watch out for the first qualifier in Denmark via special Facebook account
The 2010 CEV Junior European Championships will celebrate their real opening this coming weekend with a first qualifier to be staged in Holte, Denmark. The hosts will try to notch a spot for the 2nd Qualification Round slated for early April as they test out the likes of England and Norway, whereas the local girls will find in the Azerbaijani youngsters quite a strong contender along their way on home soil.
The Danish Volleyball Federation is currently fine tuning the preparations for this event and in the meantime already created a special account on Facebook (see here) to promote the tournament and recruit potential spectators among the many users of that well-known social network.
Moreover, apart from the live scoring available on the CEV website, the Danish Federation will provide a live streaming of all matches (final link will follow soon).

  • 1st round - 07-10/01/2010
    Pool A
    Azerbaijan
    Denmark
    Norway

    Denmark - Norway 3 : 0 (25:17 25:23 25:20)
    Norway - Azerbaijan 0 : 3 (11:25 22:25 19:25)
    Azerbaijan - Denmark 3 : 0 (26:24 25:8 25:16)

After both Azerbaijan and Denmark had won their respective matches against Norway, the third and final match of the group was going to decide which team would have clinched a berth for the second round. The strong team from Azerbaijan was from the start considered as the pre-favorite of the tournament, but the Danish girls showed immediately that they were ready to fight for their chances. With strong blocking and good fast attacks from middle player Juliane Daugaard, perfectly served by setter Rikke Smed Iversen, the Danish team was able to maintain the score very close for a long time. At 24:23 Denmark, in front of 400 crazy and excited spectators, had a set ball. But the girls from Azerbaijan had the best nerves at the end of the set and took the last ball for the final 26-24. In the second set Denmark was seemly shaken by the disappointing loss, and the Azerbaijani team, led by very strong attacks for Ayshan Abdulazimova, could easily win the set 25 to 8. From the beginning of the third set the match again turned into to an exciting and interesting challenge where the teams were equal up to the second technical time-out. From that point the strong Azerbaijani girls sharpened their serving and attacking and, in spite of some substitutions and time-outs of the Danish head coach Sven-Erik Lauridsen, Denmark couldn’t find a way to overcome the opponents. Azerbaijan notched the third set 25-16 and is now ready to have a shot at the second round. Denmark ends up as number 2 in the group and Norway took the third place in the standings.

  • World Champion Germany is very good form. Spain should be proud for their Junior. Lost 2 first sets and win match what a determination. What happend with 4 World Team Bulgaria? Lost with Spain, yesterday lost in straight sets with Germany. First Team is in ECH, 2nd and 3rd in next qualif. Germany, Bulgaria, 6 World Team Holland and revolution Spain. One of this out. Bulgaria?

  • Spain in three years do a big progress. Question for Shabovta- why Azerbaijan in volleyball is in Europe Federation, but in football in Asian? How is with handball and basketball?

  • Switzerland beat Bulgaria.. How Team, who was 4 in the World can play so bad. They lost their chance to be in ECH. Holland beat Germany in high level. Finland is in good progres too. Something other gives Me question. How 3 Teams from Best 6 from World Championships can be in one group?

i was hoping you will get the point by time but obviously need to explain...

if now juniors are playing you cant look and compare with last year junior EC!!! cause today we have no single player on field that played junior EC last year (except extra classes like Sam Deroo from Belgium i.e...). Here you have last year youth generation and when someone tell you that Bulgaria in qualis for EC for that generation had score 0-4 and sets 0-12 i hope you will understand why is Bulgaria again loosing every game and that there is no team no 4 in world, maybe 44....So groups are nicely composed, with all best teams not even participating this qualifications, which is totally normal...

this is last year youth kids, both men and women and all scores are pretty expected, situation hasn't change a lot since last year. Only little surprise is IMO Germany loosing to Holland yesterday. All other results are totally normal and real. :whistling: ;)

  • I know that :-) because Poland play in Krosno with new players, not like in Mexico ? last year, where They 16. But this Bulgarian Junior should see for this great result from their Friends, who than play, and work harder and harder. So where Fight Spirit of this Team. One Year and so big down progres.

  • Watch out for German MB Ana Capote  She is the daughter of Cuban legend Josefina Capote who lives in Germany since many years, yesterday against Netherlands she scored 23 points (7 blocks, 15/19 in attack). I hope she can become a great player like her mother!

  • Need to say that again CEV prooved they are world biggest idiots around, boys and girls need to play 5 games in 5 days, it is insane and sick. Every year they did incredibly stupid things so they succeded again. congrats :box: :box: :box: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :wall: :wall: :wall:

  • Also like @ men, 8 teams already known for Junior EC:

Serbia (host), Italy, Russia and Turkey directly, Germany, Belgium, Hungary and Slovenia (biggest surprise of qualis) as 1st from qualification groups

Remaining 4 teams will be known out of 2 groups:

Group E: Belarus, Nederlands, Finland and Poland
Group F: Slovakia, Czech R., Ukraine and Switzerland

As Portugal at men, here Switzerland doing even more they dreamed, but this is their end. Here unlike men, will be very interesting games and hard to predict, IMO Slovakia should advance but others will fight a lot to get on EC. Also on women EC will be at least two new teams comparing to this generation youth EC : Slovenia and at least one from group E (only Netherlands were there).

Czech R. with 3-0 and Slovakia with 1-2 (best set ratio) advanced on EC. Slovakia seems to be in big downtrend, this team played last year on youth WC pretty solid, now they are having big problems even with below average teams in Europe. Luckily they advanced but with such play no chances at all there...

  • I want to say that these girls who presented Bulgaria in this qulaifications are not these who are 4 in the world . This is next generation very talented but very young and timid . The girls who became 4 in Mexico are now in the women squad like the big hope Elitsa Vasileva , the powerfull atacker Dobriana Rabadzhieva , the libero Cristine Colchagova and some others ... So the girls from qulaifications are the youth team who are still very unexperienced but i think they will have a good result in next qulaifications .
