European League 2011

  • The draw held by CEV in Luxembourg separated the 12 teams into 3 groups:

Group A: Portugal, Belgium, Slovenia, Great Britain
Group B: Spain, Netherlands, Greece, Austria
Group C: Turkey, Slovakia, Belarus, Romania

The winners of the 3 groups along with the host nation of the Final Four will advance to the last round. The 2011 winner will again have the chance to qualify for the World League 2012.

  • In group A we have 3 good teams: Belgium, Slovenia and Portugal. This group is interesting. I hope Belgium or Slovenia nac get to the finals.

In B, i think Netherlands will have no dificult.

In group C, i dont think we have a good team. Maybe the best is Turkey.

  • Holland shouldn't have trouble winning the whole thing if they're complete. But actually that's not true, but we didn't qualify for ECH, so I think we will have a very hard time with these opponents. Slovakia should be a good team right? That's where Bled is from isn't it?

I hope Great Brittain does really well and surprises the world.

I hope Great Brittain does really well and surprises the world.

Bled is in Slovenia, not Slovakia, but both Slovenia and Slovakia have decent teams. I think that if Netherlands overcomes Spain first, the main opponent will be Portugal, it's the team they've had most problems playing against, the last ECH qualification is just the most recent example. About GB, they still don't have the number of professionals needed to make competition, so I seriously doubt their chances in the near future!

  • HeelMooi, I think that you seriously underestimate Netherlands team. Kooy, Kooistra, Bontje, Horstnik and Klapwyik together are among the best teams in the world as potential

  • As potential yes, but I've been saying that for years, but the results have not proven it, so I think we should be modest as the players should; start from the beginning and see from there. Don't say "we are good, we play in such and such clubs", just see how we play together. And of course we lack a world class setter, which is a serious weakness. Also none of our players has a stable serve, or well perhaps Kooy or Horstink. In their club team sthis is compensated by other players, but if you put them altogether their serve is too unstable.

But we'll see, I agree that pure statisically Holland should absolutely win this.

  • Hmm, where is Czech republic ? :|

No, really, where is the Czech Team??? 8| ?( ?(
After their great performance in the last WCH I was hoping to see them in the World League. Now I see they are not even in the European league??? Why???
Can someone from the czech fans inmform me??? :|

  • Radovan Malevic to head Croatia in 2011 CEV European League
After Portugal replaced Egypt in the starting field of the 2011 FIVB World League, Croatia’s men’s national team was admitted to join the 2011 CEV Volleyball European League. Mr. Zdeslav Barač, President of the Croatian Volleyball Organization, was extremely pleased to introduce this morning to the national media Mr. Radovan Malević, recently appointed to mentor the national team.
Malević said that the 2011 CEV Volleyball European League represents a unique opportunity to develop the national team and get ready for the qualifications to the 2013 European and 2014 World Championships.
At the end of the year Croatia’s national team will also participate in a pre-qualification tournament for the 2012 Olympic Games and this will be the first test for the quality of his work. “Like our women’s national team, this is a good combination of young and experienced players, so I have full confidence in the quality and potential of my guys” he concluded.

  • Belgium without Franck Depestele and Jo van Decraen in European League

    Quote

We will miss Jo van Decraen who underwent a surgery on his shoulder and Franck Depestele, our player of the year here in Belgium, who was recently transferred from Knack Randstad ROESELARE to Russia’s Iskra ODINTSOVO. He needed some rest as he has been playing for some months while suffering from an injury on his ankle.
