Japan - 2012/2013 Women's Premier V- League

  • hello, brahmin :)

What do you think about Saori Sakoda and Haruka Miyashita performance in V.league this season?

They will be chosen for the best 6 or not ?

i hope Haruka-chan will be chosen for the national team this year.

  • Haruka is very young (did not realize that she was going to high school in Osaka, while playing in Okayama for the season) at 18!
She played in all of the sets this season for Okayama and 13th in blocking at 0.45 blocks per set
As a setter, I do not look for her when I doing my score updates. Also, the Japanese league does not keep track of setter specific statistics. But they do have their hitting numbers.
    Her team's hitting percentage was .313 (1704-198)/4801
Back row hitting percentage (included in the total above) was .084 (14-7)/83, they had the fewest back row attempts in the league by 130
Her front row numbers (1690-191)/4718= .318

Setters do not score a ton of point, but if they block and serve well, they are very valuable in my mind. Considering she is only 18, I think that she's had a decent season.

As for Saori Sakoda, I am a huge fan, but for the national team she always comes off the bench. It drives me crazy because from my advanced stats in international matches, she produces very well.

This past season, Saori was #2 in scoring with 491 points (442 kills, 38 blocks, 11 aces) in 96 sets of play or 5.11 points per set
To the best that I can find, she got the most sets in the league with 1,093. She took 25% of the teams sets
Her hitting percentage was .348 (442-61)/1093, the team was .327
She average 4.60 kills per set which was #1 in the league

Had a good season and should be on the list at the end of the year, Maybe not the MVP, but top 6 in my mind.

  • what do you think is the reason for nec's dramatic improvement? is it because only of yeliz baza or are there other players who made this improvement possible?

  • As Brahmin mentioned matches will be played as round-robin tournament. So Nec will play against Seagulls in first day and later on they will play with other teams as well, basically there aren`t a match-up between Nec and Seagulls.

  • Hisamitsu Springs - Toray Arrows 3-2 (22-25 25-21 23-25 25-23 15-10) stats
Best scorers: Miyu Nagaoka 24, Saori Sakoda 26. Good match in block by Iwasaka - 6 and Hirai - 8 blocks, both had more blocks than Toray - 10.

  • Both games look pretty competitive indeed. If anybody find any related videos about those game, I would be grateful if you share them with me. Cheers
And are there anyone who watched matches? How were they?

  • This year the V.League is really balanced. Maybe Toray Arrows will miss Kimura during the finals... I like all the four teams, but it would be nice to have a new champion team. Probably I'll be supporting NEC Red Rockets.

  • Sorry all, I've been out for work and just got back today. NEC had 6 players over 10 points. Basa only started in the 1st and 5th sets, a sub in the 3rd and 4th and scored 13. Mai Yamaguchi had 24 for Okayama.
Okayama still did not have Megumi Kurihara, so I am guessing that the injury is very serious if she is not playing right now.

Here are the regular season results for the 4 teams against each other

    NEC vs.
    Hisamitsu 4-0
    Toray 2-2
    Okayama 2-2
    Total (8-4)

    Hisamitsu vs.
    NEC 0-4
    Toray 4-0
    Okayama 3-1
    Total (7-5)

    Toray vs.
    NEC 2-2
    Hisamitsu 0-4
    Okayama 4-0
    Total (6-6)

    Okayama vs.
    NEC 2-2
    Hisamitsu 1-3
    Toray 0-4
    Total (3-9)

So far Toray lost to Hisamitsu, for the 5th time and NEC beat Okayama in 5 sets, which was a little bit unexpected in my mind.

  • Hisamitsu won. Congrats! Hisamitsu key to success in this playoff was their delivery and spikers confidence. Okayama without Megumi suffered a lot. ;( Please, come back next season, Megumi!

Now, time to a tough match between NEC X Toray. :super: What can I do to watch NHK-BS1? I'd love to see this match. They can't imagine how much fans japanese volley has around the world.

  • These two days I have been trying to watch the games. Today via apple app of Nico japan, I managed to find match replays. Unfortunately the quality is so low that I barely see the ball. Seems we like we have to wait until somebody upload it toyoutube

  • what is the benefit of finishing the league as leader,if you cant advance to the final ?

with saori out of toray and the high level players such as bethania, brako etc. playing somewhere else the parity of the leaue becomes more balanced to the point that even 3rd or 4th place teams can get to the finals besides it is a single round robin semis giving a higher chance for an upset.
