2013 World Grand Champions Cup for Women

  • I think it's pretty meaningless...inviting the champions from each continent can make the tournament exciting but still think it's more related to money issues...well, let's say like Japan perhaps wants to show how they influence on volleyball and FIVB.

I'm not such a big fan of asian volleyball and Russia, Brazil without their best players...nothing so fun to me.

The only excitement is to see Glass's insane fast sets and Larson's come-back.

  • i've only watched BRA x USA and RD x RUS so far.

i don't understand what's going on with US. why are glass sets so bad? is she trying to set too fast for the spikers? so many times they had to dink.

    waleska is back? amazing.

dominicans so frustrating as usual. how many times is chaplina gonna hit a sharp cross-court spike and annerys valdez can't adjust and cut that angle? RUS putting a blocking clinic, 21 blocks in 4 sets? amazing. and RD so many dinks instead of spiking. bad setting?

  • I don't understand why Pena spent almost the whole match on the bench, she can't be worse than Rivera. .

only 3 spike errors in two match's... rivera is better reciver and digger than yonkaira, Yonkaira is very young and will have a bright future,

  • It is nice to see that Malykh got a chance to play. She is a really promising player and I think she can be a very important player in some years. Also Dianskaya has shown how good she could play although it was against Dominican Republic.

Overall I believe Marichev´s decision of giving chances to some youngsters (Sylyakhovaya, Dianskaya, Pankova, Malykh, Isaeva and Malova) has been a big success.

  • Seems Brazil was the only team to travel from Nagoya to Tokyo in bullet trains...the other teams, USA, Russia, Thailand, Dominican Rep and Japan travelled by bus. its over a 4 hours drive.

I dont know how the system is..I guess Brazil confederation probably paid appart so the girls could travelled in faster way...but I guess FIVB should provide to all teams a fast way to travel from one city to another in tournaments such this shouldnt they?

  • Fernanda Garay was sidelined against Thailand by a back pain. I'm not sure she will be lined-up against Dominican Republic. Hope we can pull off one more victory tomorrow!

Walewska's effects have already kicked in. Adenízia is in a good shape right away. I'm pleased that she accept to try out for the NT again.
The third place for the World Championship is about to be a battle: Adenízia, Juciely and Walewska. And that, if we put youngs aside (Bia, Carol...). I don't think Zé is going to call in players that hasn't filled the senior programme more often. I guess experience will be a handicap.

Today I read this (Marichev): 'First, I’m happy to be here in this spectacular competition. I suppose the Japan fans were happy with the first match that we were unable to win. At the moment, my team has serious issues. We’re missing two key players but have been boosted by having (Liubov) Shashkova and (Evgeniya) Startseva in the team and that has helped us perform better than before. In the match against Japan, the players couldn’t communicate well but we fixed things against the Dominican Republic. We want to play better by having better communication between the players.'
I suppose the two key players he's talking about are Kosheleva and Goncharova. Does it means Gamova is really done with the NT? I'm rooting for Brazil and Russia in the final next year and that just won't be the same without her... :(

  • I'm rooting for Brazil and Russia in the final next year and that just won't be the same without her... :(

I want Brazil to win the WCh, so I hope Gamova will not be there... haha

  • does anyone know of a live stream for BRA x RD tonight? i only see links for the other two matches.

i was excited to watch the young russian players, i was impressed by shlyakhovaya, dianskaya and malykh.

about prisilla rivera, she also finsihed as one of the top spikers at the olympics, somewhat surprising. she's a very good player in the RD team. what frustrates me is hwo often she dinks if she doesn't like a set or if there's a big block. she's the queen of dinks.

When it is Russian players' retirements from NT, I always doubt that it is a real retirement  (Sokolova, Artamanova... )

  • Ebata may be playing in the next 3 games. Manabe in the press conference yesterday said that. She had hurt her lower back.

He even said that Japan may not use a middle blocker. With the Japanese girls being shorter, they will get killed against bigger teams with this type of thinking.

I don't think that Araki is coming back having just gotten married and being pregnant.
