Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2019/20

  • At least Bundesliga streams are free and universally available...

Yes, but personally I'd rather pay a few € than have this (stream not working today/camera showing the wrong side of the court/no commentator/low quality or dark picture/ etc). Do they really attract more than a few hardcore fans with this?

With paid streams they'd definitely lose a lot of those "hardcore fans"

  • For me the problem is that I don't often have time to watch matches, so when I do, I enjoy having them for free, but I'm not going to subscribe to anything knowing I'm not going to use it very often. I don't think Italian league asks too much with 40€ for a whole season, but for watching parts of some matches every now and then it is too much for me personally, and I think many others are in a similar situation.

  • Schwerin - Münster 3:0 (25:21 25:17 25:18)

MVP: Greta Szakmary / Demi Korevaar

    Suhl - Wiesbaden 2:3 (19:25 25:22 18:25 25:22 10:15)

MVP: Hester Jasper / Klara Vyklicka

Katerina Valkova out with knee injury in 2nd set, looked like ACL but then she was able to walk off the court on her own, so maybe not that serious eventually...

    Vilsbiburg - Dresden 2:3 (19:25 25:21 22:25 25:22 8:15)

    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2019-20/Women/2035.pdf

MVP: Lena Möllers / Lucija Mlinar

    Aachen - Potsdam 1:3 (17:25 23:25 26:24 31:33)

    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2019-20/Women/2032.pdf

MVP: Vanessa Agbortabi / Brittany Abercrombie (32 pts)

    Erfurt - Straubing 1:3 (13:25 25:17 16:25 11:25)

MVP: Jennifer Pettke / Ragni Steen Knudsen

So Straubing indeed signed Sofia Turla as new backup setter, which probably means Meis will be out some more time.

  • Aachen won the first set against Stuttgart. I think the coach of Stuttgart underestimates Aachen, because he started the match without Cansu, Rivers and Samadan. Aachen isn't a bad team they have a balanced starting 6. I don't know how long Thompson will be injured, but if she will be out for a long time, they should consider to sign another outside hitter. Lazic contributes just nothing...:gone:

  • In the meanwhile Stuttgart lost their first match in the competition in a tense tie-break:cheesy:

When all OHs were available Lazic was the solution rather than the problem. Not her day today but in the other games she's done ok.

I really like Athanasopoulos and I think he's a great coach but I don't understand the idea of letting the brand new setter start her first game without the main weapon and without Samadan as well.

What a crazy tiebreak btw... 23:25

  • Yes, out head coach is clearly to blame for this unnecessary defeat - while mathematically Aachen would be ranked just fourth and not second (nonsensical sports table rules), it is one of the four top teams and by far too strong to gamble that way in the first set of course. He did a similar thing in the closing phase of last season against Potsdam with the same result (loss in tie-break), but than the risk regarding table was easier to deal with as now.

  • Stuttgart - Aachen 2:3 (18:25 16:25 25:17 25:18 23:25)

MVP: Annie Cesar / Maja Storck

    Straubing - Vilsbiburg 3:2 (25:14 21:25 11:25 25:19 15:12)

MVP: Lena Große Scharmann / Josepha Bock

Straubing continues to impress, despite playing with Izquierdo as libero and almost no options to make substitutions, they beat the clearly favourite team from Vilsbiburg and get 4 wins from their first 7 matches. Who knows, maybe they can even make the playoffs this season? :/

Reportedly Rivers (illness) and Samadan (back problems) had health issues, so the idea was to let them rest.

I thought too, that now the CL pool stage weeks with many matches coming, he wanted to rest some players, also to get a good start in Lodz for it. Nothing heard before about that (but I have very little time for now to be honest).

  • I really admire the coaches of Wiesbaden and Erfurt for not getting a heart attack or completely losing their temper while their teams take turns in committing suicide on court :aww: Awful level of play from both teams, but at least it never gets boring...
