US NCAA Women's VB

  • Stanford really really has a harsh schedule.

Well -- yeah -- being a fan of their WVB team since 1994 (just before their second of eight titles overall) -- plus, being a grad-alum -- I did not want to seem too 'homer-istic', myself, vis a' vis just focusing upon them. But MAN, what an OOC schedule: 6 out of 8 preseason matches against Top-ten opposition. The two matches that I previously mentioned are the first real tests for MINN, SU, TX and FL. SU's (Stanford's) lineup is: FL, TX, Penn St., MINN, NEB, & Brigham Young!

  • Easy win for Wisconsin and Minnesoa at the B10/ACC Challenge. No surprised.

Jacqueline Quade with 35,5 Pts in a 5 Set Thriller vs Tennessee. Illi comeback from a 0:2 and win the 5th set with 23:21

  • I was a little shocked that Illinois was once 0:2 Tennessee. But glad to see Quade's performance, she has improved so much over the past two seasons.

  • "K...here goes (the Hawai'i - SD match ended at ~3A EDT, so I am writing this on Saturday, August 31st, @2P EDT/ 11A PDT/ 8A HST (where I live (more coffee!))

Many of the Sidearm Stats scores were erased by the time I finished up with the UH - SanD match; had to go to NCAA.com to try to assemble this listing. Ciao!

  • The Seminoles sweept Minnesota. :what: Weak performence from the Gophers.

Former Gophers Jasmyn Martin, who transfered this Summer to Florida State, with 16 Kills

There were a number of other upsets in the #11-25 range; too many for me to enumerate, or keep up with. Minnesota's loss was shocking; BYU's, also! The teams which were idle have matches on Sunday, September 1 (Tx. vs. usc; Illinois versus Tennessee; Kentucky vs. Saint Marys (CA.). I will add those Sunday.

  • I was wondering, why isn't Megan Miller playing as a libero for Nebraska? She did a good job last year as DS, so with the leave of Malone I thought she would be the libero.
But from the part I've seen, the new libero also seems good.

Don't know, nor follow, NE's machinations much - they are anathema to me (hate their guts) - so, my sense of Cook's tendencies is he does not change much.

  • SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST TOP-TEN:

    #4 TX. defeated Usc 3-1 (-23,=18,+17,+21)

Now, some personal observations after 1st weekend - MINN is in serious poop without Seilger-Swenson. Same for ILL w/out Poulter/Bastianelli. BYU's 'toast'! Florida's way overrated: afa them, + the rest of the SEC, are concerned. Marquette has shown real glimmers of ascendancy. Still too early to gauge the others.

  • Minnesota just isn't the same without SSS running the offense.

Yup - as stated two posts above yours here, I feel both Illinois and MINN are in some potentially deep doo-doo. Gophers without SSS, plus ILL without Poulter and Bastianelli, had some rough matches at the beginning of the season. The illini should have lost at least one of their matches versus TENN; MINN did lose!

  • Thanks for putting up a link for the poll; not really that into the AVCA deal: what with very few coaches participating, really (most times it is the SID's doing it)!

So, upcoming Top-10 matches for the 9/3 through 9/8 time period:

    AVCA: #11 Marq.; #12 KY; #13 BYU; #14 MI, #15 Sc; #16 WA.; #17 BAY; #18 PUR; #19 Utah; #20 HI; #21 TENN; #22 FSU; #23 Creighton #24 L'ville; #25 SanD.

  • MINN is in serious poop without Seilger-Swenson....Florida's way overrated: afa them, + the rest of the SEC, are concerned.

This is my edited post from a few days back; turned out pretty prophetic, ya? Followed some of the MINN v TX match: Hilarious! FIFTEEN chances to end a set on their serve (set points) - ZERO success. They ended up w/ a DS in the front row (6 rotation) 'cos they ran out of subs. Saw the Stanford match: pretty typical - loved the difference in Gray's setting style after her working w/ Alisha Glass-Childress (setters coach). Room for improvement w/Gates; what a Godsend tho!

  • After BYU Marquette beat #4 Wisconsin at First time in Programme History.

The First two Sets go to the Badgers with the Same result: 25-22.

But Marquette strikes back wirh 29:27,32:30 and 15:9 .

Was very funny to See this Game 👍
