Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2020/21

  • Lena Stigrot got injured in Dresden's last match and is registered as 2nd libero today, so she's not ready to play yet. Dresden brought youngster Sina Stöckmann as additional backup OH but probably they'll have to stick with Geerties-Cyris duo today.

  • I'm really excited Hart signed with Vilsbiburg! She could be a good fit IMO. She can add some fire power in attack from the right side. Next to that playing with Keller as receiving opposite makes up for her lack of receiving skills.

  • I'm a bit disappointed of Jenna Gray. She surely has potential, but for now she lacks consistency and precision. Her hitters often have problems with timing because the balls always have a different speed and location. Due to the postponement of the Olympics I guess USA NT this year will have other things to do than focusing on the development of new players, so she'll probably need 2-3 years before she can arrive on top level...

This is very much probably a just me opinion.... but she's not a future NT setter... She had those issues at Stanford too but she had a Plummer to bail her out. Her placement isn't consistent.

  • Vilsbiburg - Dresden 1:3 (16:25 20:25 25:22 13:25)

  • In theory, today was the last round of 1st half of the season. Due to Schwerin's CL and the following quarantine, their matches against Vilsbiburg, Dresden and Stuttgart are missing, but they already played twice against Suhl. Here is the current ranking:

    1 Allianz MTV Stuttgart 9 8 26:6 25

    2 Dresdner SC 9 7 21:8 21

    3 VfB Suhl LOTTO Thüringen 11 7 24:16 20

    4 SSC Palmberg Schwerin 8 6 22:12 18

    5 SC Potsdam 10 6 21:16 18

    6 Rote Raben Vilsbiburg 9 5 19:15 15

    7 Ladies in Black Aachen 10 4 18:23 12

    8 VC Wiesbaden 10 3 15:25 9

    9 NawaRo Straubing 10 3 11:24 9

    10 USC Münster 10 2 13:27 8

    11 Schwarz-Weiß Erfurt 10 2 10:28 4

Suhl definitely exceeds expectations, whereas Münster for me is the biggest disappointment. In the long run I think Stuttgart, Schwerin, Dresden and Potsdam will once again be the top 4 teams, behind them Suhl, Vilsbiburg and Aachen seem to be fighting for 5th place and Wiesbaden, Straubing and Münster for 8th place.

  • This is just the now useless official ranking. When mathematically reacting to the big differences in played matches due to COVID-19 through dividing the match points by the number of matches played, the following more realistic result of order of the teams emerges:

    1. Stuttgart 2.78

    2. Dresden 2.33

    3. Schwerin 2.25

    4. Suhl 1.82

    5. Potsdam 1.8

    6. Vilsbiburg 1.67

    7. Aachen 1.2

    8. Wiesbaden 0.9 SR 0.6

    9. Straubing 0.9 SR 0.46

    10. Münster 0.8

    11. Erfurt 0.4

i.e. Suhl is slightly overrated for the moment and closely followed by Potsdam. Vilsbiburg is far ahead of Aachen, which is also far ahead of the four last, who were performing really weakly overall so far.
