S.Korea - 2022-2023 V-League (Women)

  • Wow. Now that's some news. At least Pepper will be a bit more competitive this time around. I think Chae Seon Ah from KGC will also move to Pepper. Hopefully this means Park Hyemin will have more playing time.

I feel sad about Kim Yuri. I really like her as a player.

  • I think more shuffle is coming

I hope more shuffle is coming

Surely Pepper must regret not taking Hwang Yeonjoo from Hillstate for free when they could've after seeing her performance last season.

Curious if her, Hwang Minkyeong, as well as Kim Yeongyeon will remain at Hillstate

Yeum Hyeseon at KGC as well

Could be an unpopular opinion, but I hope a club signs with LJY too after 2.5 years now

Don't know if she'd still be as good being out of the competition for so long, but her joining will make the league a lot more competitive certainly

I hope Hwang Minkyeong leaves Hillstate for Pepper so that their OHs could have more time playing (especially Jeong Ji Yun; she needs to hone her receiving skills).

Yeum is definitely gonna be retained. Her other setters in KGC are simply not good (except their rookie setter Park Eunji).

Yes, she definitely needs to come back. It's ridiculous she's become a social pariah when players like Park Sangha and Jeong Ji Suk get to play in their respective clubs. I hope Pepper tries to get her.

  • Jeong Dae Young back to GS caltex....okay didnt see that coming lol

Jeez, Hi-Pass lost a lot of their main veterans now. Hope this means their coach is finally gonna learn how to manage their players lol.

Jeong Dae Young at 42 is still in pretty great shape. But is it me, or did y'all notice that compared to other countries, there are many players in Korean volleyball who are still playing in their late 30s and 40s? Jeong Dae Young, Kim Haeran, Im Myeong Ok, and Han Songyi are some on top of my head. It's good that they are able to still maintain their shape and be competitive, but it could also mean that the bar is low and that the young guns cannot even compete with them.

  • Wow, Hwang Minkyung moves to IBK!

I think she's gonna do great there! IBK has always been bad with receiving, thus they tried to go with Daly Santana. She was a great addition, but at the expense of power since they didn't have a good opposite, unlike all the other teams in the league. Seems they are going back to looking for an opposite.

  • Was not expecting Jung Daeyoung to switch clubs at this age, but GS indeed needed someone after Kim Yuri

She played a huge role in the championship finals despite her age

Hwang Minkyung switching too - wow!!!

Jeong Jiyoon can have more playing time but... I still feel unsure about her in OH position to be frank, I suppose we'll see more this next season

  • I think KYK said in one of her yt video, the player play so much games during season, they know each other too well, i think its affecting player growth too.

That's why Asia quota might shake some things up, of course lot of roster transfer is good too it became less predictable league.

  • Kim Heejin renews with IBK, with 350 million won salary (annual 150 million won, optional 200 million won).

Personally, not sure if she deserves 350 million won given she'll be under rehabilitation for a long time... but I know she's a franchise star and extremely popular in Korea.

Personally i think her capability has waned or regressed somewhat but this is south korea...where skills and capability come second after looks and star quality

  • Surprised IBK recontracted with her...

Even moreso for 1 year and 350 million krw

I know she's their franchise star, but she will not be able to play at all next season. Would've made more sense if IBK made her sign a 2-3 year contract at a lower cost to retain her her longer while clearing salary cap space for future season. Why sign a single year at a cost which isn't even that low, for zero contribution from her??

Player market in Korea is too small and not competitive at all... what a pity

IBK could've went for LJY instead with that salary cap space (if she was still interested in returning)

  • Sharing here the chosen Asian Quarter Draft players:

    • IBK - Pornpun Guedpard (Setter)
    • Hyundai Hillstate - Wipawee Srithong (OH)
    • KGC - Megawati Pertiwi (OP)
    • Hi-Pass - Thanacha Sooksod (OP)
    • AI Peppers - Mar-Jana Phillips (MB)
    • GS Caltex - Mediol Yoku (OH)
    • Pink Spiders - Reina Tokoku (OP)

First thoughts... I know Pornpun is definitely the first choice for whoever club gets the first pick, but I'm not sure IBK needs another setter when they have Hakyung and Sola. As for Hyundai, since they lost Hwang Minkyung, they definitely need a solid OH, and Wipawee is pretty solid in receiving from the videos I have seen. KGC getting Megawati is also pretty good, as well as Hi-Pass getting Thanacha. Now here is where it gets dodgy... I'm not sure I'm a fan of Mar-Jana as a Middle Blocker, especially for a young team like AI Peppers that needs an experienced blocker. I thought definitely out of all the Middles, I thought they would get someone from Thailand. As for Mediol Yoku, I saw her play the last SEA games and she was pretty good. I'm surprised Reina Tokoku was the last pick though. I saw a review on Youtube and I thought she was easily 2nd or 3rd pick... Well, it's great she's coming to Pink Spiders since Kim knows how to speak Japanese.

    Anyway, what are your thoughts?

  • Well, my first thought was why they are picking OPP if they are also most getting a western OPP who i think will be more terminating? I am only basing it from history unless they will pick a MB western import to play and then let the asian OPP play? But also, i see the list there are only few players playing MB.

Well, true. But probably these can be good backups since every year, the foreign players keep on getting injured in the middle of the season. Hope for once though, the clubs will try other options for foreign players aside from OPP or OH.

If they will.most likely get a western OPP then they shpuld have at least select something different that can contribute like MB or Setter and can be use and maximize both foreign players. If they get 2 OPP foreign players and then they have another local OPP players. It doesn't make sense lol. Upon checking the list of western there are big names there and other already played and you can't just ignore these great players. But we will see.

First off we're really missing theloneracer since this should be in next season's thread

Pornpun is the "best" draft pick, but IBK didn't make the best choice for their team imo

They need a scorer not a setter, especially in comparison to other teams

Not only that, Pornpun's setting style is fast and low for Asian spikers, would she have good coordination with IBK's other foreign player (who will be the main scorer) from the next draft?

All foreign players thus far from Europe/West suited high long sets instead, her coordination in Rapid wasn't very ideal

Pornpun would've been a much better fit in most other clubs that really needs a setter and have decent spikers
