Former WTA no.2 and 1998 Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna died yesterday at age 49. So sad
-
Does anyone follow tennis? I've just found out that Kim Clijsters announced her comeback in 2020 and I really didn't expect that
WAIT, WHAT?
I stopped following tennis mostly because of her retirement, i love her so much.. What she was capable of doing, especially in that last Australian Open against Li Na, wow, it was amazing.. I always loved to see Li Na too, so much fun, she just playing to have fun, enjoying herself.. Really, really cool..
You've made my day

Justine Henin is my favourite player of all times, so naturally I LOATHED Clijsters during her her first career However, when she came back, my enormous disdain turned into slight annoyance and finally relative indifference, so I don't think I'll feel strongly about her this time around either. Still, I'll have to wait until I see her on court again before I can decide how I feel about her

It was the opposite for me, I couldn't stand Henin but when she was gone, I regretted it a lot. IMO WTA lacks rivalry like Henin vs Clijsters nowadays.
Oh, how I miss those days! Great players, great rivalries, great stories. Exciting matches every week, all season long.
We have none of that anymore, with players randomly peaking to win a major tournament and then sucking 90% of the time.
There's some promise in this new generation with Andreescu, Osaka and others, but damn, I've been burned so many times before, so it's hard to be invested in anyone.
-
I love both her and Justine, my favs are Justine and Martina Hingis, then Aga and Pironkova, all retired But I found Bianca Andreescu quite entertaining, so hopefully she will continue to slay

Finally Aryna Sabalenka is back and won a title She's fearless and I see a good potential in her but it seems she can't get it together. On the other hand it's painful to watch Garbine Muguruza lately, she doesn't have the mentality to have a top player

When Sabalenka is good, she's scary good but she plays with so little margin for error that I don't know if she'll ever be a consistent top player. She definitely has the game to blast her way to a couple of grand slam titles though.

I really agree , Ostapenko has a similar style ( with a much worse serve) and she peaked at that Roland Garros but then... If Sabalenka can peak during a Grand Slam, then she can make some damages for sure

I know this is late but I just read it and found it quite funny considering she always crushed the Serbian girls. I always remember her beat down of Ivanovic in the French Open final, Henin was just untouchable on clay.
