    ***it misses still one team.
the 14th team will be Pineto or Forlì, there's a discussion about it because Pineto has some economic problems and Forlì wants the right to stay in A1 because they say they are regular whereas Pineto break the rules.

i confirm and i add that this is the last decision, so official.

  • Just want to point out that Van den Dries is Belgian, not Dutch.

This is a big opportunity for him, he's just 20 years old. I hope he'll get some playtime though, I checked Giombini's stats from last season in A2: turns out he was at the top of scorer and attacker statistics. Seems like Giombini, at age 34, is still in great shape.

Normally, Van den Dries would play in the upcoming Junior World Championships in India. Unfortunately, he's still recovering from knee surgery and won't be part of the team.

  • here in Italy we say "there's no end for the worse"....

Pineto re-admitted by the federal court in Serie A1 so now we have 15 teams...interesting, a team that doesn't pay players can compete in A1...
Forlì who gained the right to play in A1 weeks ago of course now don't want to play in A2, also because they bought good players.
    so what to do?
the schedule was already done....without Pineto....and now???
re-make it with 15 teams so that at evey round one team doesn't play and rest or what???
incredible....i feel ashamed for my league...

  • here in Italy we say "there's no end for the worse"....

    (...)

i feel ashamed for my league...

If you are looking for the worse, just look the other side of the Alps.
    For 2008-2009 we had a 14 teams "pro A", for 2009-2010 we'll be having a 16 teams "Ligue A" and for 2010-2011 we'll be back to a 14 teams "ligue A".
    Does someone said "stupid" ?

The finest being that this 16 teams league was part of a plan to reduce the number of pro teams. Some smart-ass of the federation figured some complicated plan (don't ask me which one) that supposed to have 16 team in pro A this season. Of course the plan was drop at the middle of the season last year, when it was too late to change the championship rules (only 1 team going down to pro B, and 3 teams coming from pro B to pro A last season).
So here we are, going backward to a 14 teams championship, having this season 30 pro teams (it could have been 32, since the pro B was scheduled to be a 16 teams league as well, but 2 teams could not afford it) when the sport ministry wanted it cut to something like 20 maximum...

    So don't be too ashamed : there's worse !

  • mmmh it's a big fight..
many people says that you, french, and we, italian, are very similar...maybe they're not so wrong :)
but anyway i think your situation is a bit better than ours...at least your league has a number equal of teams... :D

meanwhile my Copra has announced the new main sponsor: our name is going to change from last season's COPRA NORDMECCANICA PIACENZA into COPRA ATLANTIDE PIACENZA

  • You guys, you can always find worse cases somewhere else... lol...

Here in Brazil, the situation is pretty confusing, a lot less organized than in France or Italy.

As of right now, we know that our league will PROBABLY start in november-ish or something, but we have no idea exactly when it'll happen. I get amazed by how early the italian schedule is set.

Not only we don't know when the championship starts, but we also do not know which teams will take part.

For instance, aside from SUPERLIGA, our main club tournament, we also have a championship called "National League", which features teams from all around the country, that, most of the time, are not as economicly powerful as the others. It takes place before Superliga, so the idea is that the top 2 teams of this championship qualify to play Superliga. In theory, that's the championship you play to get acces to Superliga. In reality, though, it's not a sure thing, 'cause most of the time they can't afford to play "the big tournament".

However, in this very year, some new teams got good sponsors and took good players. These teams don't have to play "National League", they can just skip directly to Superliga. So, in the end, it's all about money.

I'm sorry if I didn't make any sense, but, as you guys see, it's really a mess.

  • ok Yates, i think your situation is worse than ours
    i didn't expect anyway....

  • SuperCup of Italy

    Sunday, 20 September at 6pm

of course tomorrow i'm going to follow my guys in this exciting event.
I think we can be in a better condition than Macerata, because they miss Swiderski for an injury, and because Martino and Cisolla come from a very bad european championship with our national team.
Copra has played 5 tests match in these days, winning 3, drawing one( 2-2 versus Treviso) and loosing one at tie-break wihout Zlatanov.
I saw the team very concentrated and motivated for this match...i'm faithful, but as it's the first match of the season it's quite unpredictable.
Our line-up should be: Meoni-Marshall, Bjelica-Rak, Zlatanov-Bravo, Durante. The only doubt i have is on Bravo, maybe Lorenzetti will choose Urnaut at last minute, he played very good last test versus Treviso (3-1).

Tv broadcasting: RaiSport+(for this year Rai has bought the rights to broadcast volleyball here, and i'm very disappointed cause Sky Sport offered a perfect service, whereas i have many doubts on Rai....)

  • Piacenza won the Supercoppa Italia against Macerata 3:2 ( 25-19 24-26 20-25 25-20 20-18 )

Piacenza had 1:0 and 23:20 and practically match won, then unusual collapse and returned Macerata into match. New player, Urnaut played well for Piacenza (11pts), usually best Zlatanov (supercup MVP) and Marshall. Bravo was sidelined whole match. Omrcen was stopped despite 20pts scored so Piacenza should have finish the job much earlier, cause Cisolla and Martino aren't in form to provide edge for Lube. With Murillo this team would be much stronger but he f***** the club.

Also need to say it is very sad SKY or Lega quit their contract cause level of tv coverage is now awful with RAI.

Of course, lets wait Copra fan to see his corner of view :D

  • Of course, lets wait Copra fan to see his corner of view :D

    here i am! :)
a bit asleep...(1200 km in one day)but sooo happy!
yeah as Raul said this match could have ended 3-0 with a bit more attention in the second set...then in the third one my team accused the loss of the second set but in the fourth and overall in the last one our strength came out(especially mentality strength i would say)
Urnaut simply confirmed my opinions over him, he's a little phenom! with a good trainer as Lorenzetti is, he can become a real champion
The difference anyway was made as i already said by our mentality, now we have the right mentality of the winners, we have no more fear, and in the topic moments this is incredibly important, and besides the tie-break ended 20-18
first set almost perfect, Lube can't even make a single break of 2 points in a row! then some mistakes of Marshall and Zlatanov and a good Macerata i have to say it(congratulations to them cause they are always a very good team), let the match stay in balance...but the same Marshall and Zlatanov, with the help of Urnaut, Bjelica and Meoni(3 aces!!! ) gave us this great cup.
begin a season in this way is amazing 8)
we showed that we are not satisfied of the victory of last year, but we want to have victories over victories...i hope as Treviso did in these last 10 years, but i would be glad also even if we would win the half of their titles... veeeery hard but with these players, and a heart like this, nothing is impossible i would say, even if the opponents are so strong
    great Copra!

  • Congratulations to Copra Piacenza. Another win in a final. It seems that the team is developing a winning mentality, which is very important. On the contrary, Macerata didn't make it through an important game once more.

I have a couple of questions for you, Copra. First, why didn't Bravo play? Is he injured or what? And secondly, I want to know how Marshall performs as an opposite. Do you think he can be successful to his new role?

    thanks so much Shadow :)
to answer your questions: Bravo was injured(how new for my team :cursing: ) but this year we have an amazing substitute, which is Tine Urnaut, so at the moment i'm not angry...and anyway Bravo's injury is not so bad so he can recover for the first match of the league.
About Marshall...he was born as an opposite...so let's say that this is his natural role. He only needs to "remind" how to play in this side of the field, cause he did the spiker for the last 7-8 years. Anyway last sunday he played really good, so i'm quite optimistic on what he can do this year. We won the title last year when Lorenzetti turned Marshall into the opposite role and let Bravo play in the starting six as spiker...

  • Thanks for the info Copra.

I know Urnaut is a very good player. Last year, he was one of the key players who lead Olympiakos to the championship. In some games he was impressive and I know he works really hard in training, so I'm sure he will become a better player with Lorenzetti.

I wasn't aware that Marshall started as an opposite. So, it will be easy for him to adjust. After all he is one of the best players in the world.

Good luck and I wish you to have a great season in Italy and Europe. :cup:
