    - The first place of each group goes directly to the semis, and the second and third place will play in quaterfinals for the other two spots.

    - top 4 teams will qualify for the WGP 2008

    - All countries are with their best teams, except Brazil that is sending the U-20 team (the same one that will play at the Junior WCH 2007 in Thailand, and USA that is sending a mixture of experience and young players.

    - Some big stars: Barros, Ruiz, Calderon (cuba), Natalia (brazil), Stacey Gordon (canada), Robyn Ah Mow-Santos (USA), Vargas (dominican), Cruz (Puerto Rico)

  • Quote from "paivavita"

I think that brazil, curba, usa and dominican republic will not dificute to classificate to WGP 2008.

Today's match between Brazil and Puerto Rico will be important for both teams. Last year in the previous Pan Cup edition, Puerto Rico beat the main brazilian team 3x2.....

  • Today Brazil beat Peru in straight sets

    Brazil 3-0 Peru (25-18, 25-23, 25-16)

Brazil has almost qualified for 2008 World Grand Prix, once the best South American team and the top-3 teams from Norceca qualify for this competition. It seems Brazil will finish second on its pool and neither Peru nor Argentina will qualify for the second round in their pools.

  • Puerto Rico 3 - 2 Cuba (20-25, 25-15, 17-25, 25-20, 15-13)

What amazed me is that Cuba played with its main players: Yumilka Ruiz, Nancy Carillo, Rosir Calderón and so on.

You guys can find more about it on the following link:

    DOMINICAN 3x0 TRINIDAD 25-7, 25-9, 25-10

    BRASIL 3x0 PERU 25-18, 25-23, 25-16
    CANADA 3x0 URUGUAY 25-16, 25-17, 25-13

    - As said before, Puerto Rico could be a nice surprise in this tournament
    - Brasil represented with the U-20 team is shining. Two clear wins and is the only unbeaten team in Group B. Natalia 1,88 and Malu 1,97 the stars.

    Oooooooooooo, unbelievable lol

  • Brazil 3 - 1 Canada (25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19)

Tomorrow Brazil's Junior Team will play against Cuba's A-team. If Brazil were able to beat Cuba that will be a major surprise for me.

One thing is worth remarking: since the Pan-American Cup started to be a WGP qualification tournament, Brazil's Team qualified for the Grand Prix with its Junior Team. The only exception was the 2006 edition of this tournament, in which Brazil's team was represemted by the adult team without its main players.

Well, it happens that there is only one spot available to the WGP 208 for the best south american team in the competition, and Brazil is some steps ahead of Argentina and Peru. In addition, both Argentina and Peru were not allowed to participate in any Fivb tournament for 2 years because of problems with their national federations, and this affected their development.

On the other hand, it is true that brazil is participating with their junior team but these junior players are big stars in the brazilian league (natalia, for instance, was the top scorer of the last edition of the brazilian tournament, and I think she will get a spot in the main team in Beijing.

Still, if this brazilian team (juniors) is able to beat the Cuba 'A' team in today's match (Ruiz, Calderon, Barros, Santos, etc), i'd be in shock  :wink2:
