Qualification rules for Olympic Games 2024

    Polish volleyball Federation announced today qualification rules for Olympic Games 2024.


    The most important factor will be the new ranking system. It will start exist on 1st February 2020 but will be effective after Olympic Games 2020.

    There will be new FIVB world ranking and each continental federation ranking.

    Scored tournaments will be:

    2020: VNL, OG

    2021: VNL, Continental Champs

    2022: VNL, WCH

    2023: VNL, Continental Champs, Olympic Qualification

    2024: VNL, OG

    So there will be 5 scored tournament in total: VNL, OG, WCH, CCH and Olympics Qualifications Tournaments.


    Points in ranking - there will be special algorithm which will include place of each team at a tournament plus each single match result.


    FIVB ranking will contain results of matches between all world teams while continental rankings will contain matches only between the same continental teams.


    World Qualifications will start in 2023 and 24 best teams from the new ranking will be divided for 3 World tournaments. FIVB plans to make one of them as World Cup, but not confirmed yet.

    France already takes one spot.

    From each of these tournaments 2 teams will qualify.

    5 remaining places will be divided to each continent. According to each continental ranking, no.1 for 1st January 2024 will be qualified as continental best team. There will be no longer continental qualification tournament. Ranking will decide.

    It is not explained there. My guess is that it will count the same tournaments but matches between two same continent countries only.

    For instance at the WCH 2022 match USA-Turkey will not be counted by CEV, while Turkey-Italy will.

    So basically, what they actually tried to do here is make VNL more relevant and force the NTs to send their best players to every competition. Even though that is the exact opposite of what the players want, as so many have complained about the length of the international season and how exhausting it is with so much travelling.

    well as per now we only know that vnl will give SOME points, maybe it will be a really small amount comparing to major tournaments

    How are the participating countries of WCHs2022 determined??

    If qualification tournament will be held, when do it???:?:

    For sure 1st and 2nd place from continental champs will be qualified, don’t know how with the rest.
