Japan - V.League V1 (Division 1, Women) 2020-2021

  • The University Autumn League 'Alternative Tournament' (Kanto) isn't going smoothly. At least two, maybe three teams (of 12) have had to cancel matches "due to team circumstances", and the company that was broadcasting matches for a fee has said 'Nah, not gonna do it any more'. It appears that the 'circumstantial' teams are going to quarantine for 2 weeks and hope for the best, come back and make up the matches.

    Tough times

  • NEC Captain Misaki Yamauchi ended up 20/40/1 with 2 blocks and 3 aces. 27/16-6 in reception. She looked possessed. Definitely the performance of the weekend for me. She's been capable of this for a while. I hope it lasts more than one game :) She's a great captain.

YOLO and Nanami Hirose started the game and tanked it. When Yanagita and Yamauchi replaced them things turned around dramatically. Yanagita lit the fire and later pooped out, but Yamauchi didn't. Shimamura started slow but finished madly 17/34/1 with a block and an ace.

Yamada was pretty quiet but had 4 blocks. She and YOLO have not impressed me in V.League competition yet.

Yamauchi is somewhat of a monster but I think she's more concerned with connecting than her own performance but she really is incredible.

Not only the distortion, but the A/V is out of sync by 200ms with one camera and 600ms with the other. The zoom camera focuses on the server until she hits the ball, cut to the wide camera and see her hit it again !

    Connecting with teammates or fans?

She's been building to this for a few years. Takes classes on interpersonal communications and whatnot. There was something new about her last night. I hope it sticks and wasn't just an opening night gonzo bleed.

I watched this whole match :) Because it was there

    Hitachi:

Fuyumi Hawi Okumu Oba 11/16 in the Tie Break. 5,37/83 @44.6% overall. 3 Blocks. She's got jump 178/310cm, but there's something about her swing. I can't think of anyone in V.League who gets the angle she does. Downward angle. She hits a little hard so the defense may take a half step back, and she lands it two meters in front of them. Nice work.

Mai Irasawa can turn the joy of a free ball into panic. Not mistakes. She's incapable of passing a ball with confidence. Could still learn.

I don't know what to make of the setter, Keito Saiga. She did a few Tomkom behind the back quickies to Irasawa. She's got all the stylings of a jump setter, but she's kind of invisible.

    Hannah Tapp: 2,12/27 @44.4% with 3 Blocks.

Uesaka came in for Osanai and finished. It's one of them, the libero, and Kubota who do reception.

    Toyota:

Erika Araki: 0,11/20 @55%, 7 Blocks and 4 Aces. But we knew that already.

Indre Sorokaite seemed bored. Way off. 2,10/53 @18.9%. It's a timing thing. She seemed to be either on her way down when she hit the ball, or having to lean back.

Pornpun better show up and set miracles or Toyota will struggle. I like both the swingers: Nao Muranaga and Miyoko Yabuta as typical all around decent Japanese V.Leaguers. The youngster OH hopeful, Hinata Shigihara wasn't rostered.

Phoenix Don't watch this match. If you do you'll be entitled to make unflattering remarks about Ruriko Uesaka which might hurt my feelings :S

  • HMMMmmmmm where can I even watch the replays? Now I definitely need to see it

Was Sorokaite just not feeling it or.... ngl, my expectations were way too high

It's the only thing available at vtv vod. I don't know if it made it into the wild. Sorokaite was very casual and the sets weren't matching her vibes. I don't have much confidence in Toyota's setter, but Sorokaite works at a different speed than Neriman. They gotta work it out.

  • what is Hitachi's MVP #17 name, age and how tall? She is powerfully built...maybe she will get a call to the senior nt soon?

She also looks like a hafu/hapa(Japanese or Asian mixed) person?

Fuyumi Hawi Okumu Oba - Born 1998/06/27 178cm , Fukuoka City

My page for her that has links to her official pages

I'm not sure how much game she's got beyond attack, but that part is impressive/

    [Edit] I see she's shrunk to 177cm

If nothing else, hope they consider her for the terminator job. I think she can at least do that part with her power and jumping ability.

I haven't even watched any full game yet, but just that highlight video and she caught my attention...maybe i'll watch Hitachi's game while i wait till Thatdao and Pornpun's games that includes them shows up. lol
