USA NCAA Volleyball Spring 2021

  • I'm just so happy Kentucky made history yesterday and won the National Championship:heart:
They played great all season long and were a joy to watch. This was the year they had the biggest opportunity, so good that they have awarded this with a championship!^^

Curious how they will perform next season. I think it will be really difficult to defend their title, since Lilley will leave and she is the biggest reason why they won. They need a setter who can play fast to make their system work and be successful in attack, because they aren't the most physical team. Next to that Curry seems to leave, whereas she said in a video: "You guys can do it again next year." I think this will leave a little less bigger gap behind than the absence of Lilley, since they have good defensive specialist in Tharp and Walker! Don't know if Curry will play overseas, but I wouldn't have found it weird if she would have stayed one more year in Kentucky. It's really difficult for a libero to find a good team overseas, so playing one more year in NCAA wouldn't have been bad for her development. Hope she will continue playing volleyball! Hentz can't live up to the big expectations, so that only leaves Wong-Orantes as a real libero for USA (maybe Kendall White).

Question is if Avery Skinner will stay or leave? If she will leave, they could try to convert M. Skinner to the left side and use Rutherford on the right side. Although I'm not sure if M. Skinner will be able to take the same responsibility in serve receive as A. Skinner did this season. Than they could try to sign a good outside hitter from another university. Maybe Rollins? (Wishful thinking from me:lol:)

  • Kentucky will have a hard task trying to replicate what they did this year... lilley and curry are special. I don’t think you can replace how effective Lilley was in getting the best of Skinner and Tealer.... and Currys passing was insane (Tharp isn’t as good)

it’ll be a tough task. I’m not sure if Avery is returning or not. Gabby is done with her graduate degree so I doubt she returns

  • I think Curry-Lilley is the best L-S duo of NCAA. They both were the key players for this hystorical title. Curry has few crazy diggs.

Avid, do you follow men's volleyball? I want to talk about Hawaii, Long Beach and their major upsets in the Big West tournament. Today the Tournament berths should be out.

    no I don’t but I should 😂

  • Adana Rollins to Penn State.... wow

And Erika Pritchard as well... :what:

Smart transfers from Penn State IMO!

Their biggest weakness last year was clearly the outside hitter position. I like Fitzpatrick, but she is too short to reqlly make a difference in attack. Kudryashova just isn't good enough for the highest level... Rollins can bring some stability, so Blossom is able to play her fast system and involve their good middle blockers! Pritchard on the other hand can help out Parker in offense and handeling out of system balls!

  • Speaking of Stumler, has she been playing this well throughout the season/past seasons? She really showcased her potential in the championship match being able to handle the pressure when it comes to reception as well showing her capability on scoring. I don't think I've heard her name before as someone on the radar to watch as an upcoming player. Her all around skills is certainly something to look into.

Egglestion is also good. I know they play different positions, but I see more potential in her than in Fields national team wise. She has a level of maturity and work ethic that other OHs/OPPs around her age don't have yet which is great for the USA program.

Stumler's always been a great passer but this season her offense took another level.

  • What was Texas thinking moving Butler to block the right side and having Gabriel in the middle. :wall: I'm glad Lilley took advantage of that by going to Tealer and for her to pound that ball straight to the floor. :super:

I forget who said it, but this was definitely one of the more entertaining Championship matches.
