Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2023/24

  • In a Insta post by VfB Suhl, which also refers to an article by insuedthueringen, President Alexander Mantlik was quoted saying that personnel costs have been significantly reduced compared to the previous season and that they will start the season with a squad of 12 players, of whom the half are German.

As I said, next season there will probably be some teams that have roughly the same budget as Neuwied.

  • According to an article from ETV Hamburg (2nd league pro), the league wants them plus DSHS SnowTrex Köln, Bayer Leverkusen and Nawaro Straubing together in 1st league. They already offered it for next season but it was too early for all of them, so maybe there will be another attempt for 25/26.

    No Dingolfing?

Yes, they want to have 12 teams in the league again by 25/26 at the latest. Maybe even 14 teams

The clubs mentioned don't come as much of a surprise. But I think Nawaro Straubing is because Nawaro separated from one of the two managing directors who wanted to push for promotion. But that was probably about promotion to the 2024/25 season and not to the 2025/26 season.

What is noticeable about the teams mentioned is that attention was also paid to the available halls. Nawaro Straubing and Bayer 04 Leverkusen each already have halls suitable for the Bundesliga. When it comes to Bayer 04 Leverkusen's hall, however, it must be said that there may be scheduling difficulties because the hall is used by three teams, which plays more or less nationwide, and because attention also needs to be paid to the football teams and their games. In addition, both the handball players from Bayer 04 Leverkusen and the volleyball players after a possible promotion need a mobile surface, which can also lead to time and logistical difficulties.

A new hall is currently being built in Cologne, which will also be used by the volleyball players of DSHS SnowTrex Köln and is suitable for the Bundesliga. We can only hope that the construction of the hall is not delayed too much and that it will actually be finished in 2025. With regard to the ETV Hamburg, one can say that there are probably several halls in Hamburg that are suitable for the Bundesliga. For example the CU Arena, where VT Aurubis Hamburg used to play in the Bundesliga. But the Sporthalle Hamburg or the Inselpark Arena could also come into consideration.

  • 4th final Stuttgart vs Schwerin today 20:15 CET stream (it currently says it's a pay stream, but the match will be on TV so the stream should be free, probably they'll change it or I'll post a different link)

Schwerin can win championship today but Stuttgart certainly will resist with all their power.

Sorry, but Straubings turmair arena isn't really suitable for first league. And it's no requirement by the league VBL for new teams and it is very generous in interpreting this hall rule.

Thanks for the hint. Somehow I had it in my head that the ceiling height of the hall would also fit. But that's not the case with 7.50 meters, you're absolutely right.
