I find it awkward we are discussing where people want to work in 2023. It can happen that you don't feel comfortable wherever you are from and move to another country and once you get the citizenship, start playing volleyball for that country. Nobody judges you guys for working/living in abroad, why do you judge these people?

If you say money is the problem, people have different motives in their lifes and different things that motivate them, for some it can be gratitude or feeling of belonging, for others it can be money. Let it be, who are you to judge and tell someone not to change their nationality and represent another country lol. I would slap anyone in case I represented Sweden in anything and they criticised me for that.

Oh dear, it must be difficult for a lot of girls to play volleyball in such a toxic environment. I feel sad mostly for Paola.

Will be interesting if Mazzanti gets fired. Who will they go for? Lavarini or Santarelli seem like the best options but not sure if they would leave before olympics. If Giovanni fails with Serbia in ECH and starts complaining about OHs, then we might know what is about to come. Though I think having a coach like Guidetti can make things only worse since he did exactly what Mazzanti is doing with Italy in Turkey.

I really liked the US team. Their middles looked good at set 2 and 3 and then they looked amateurish in rest until that slider girl started hit insanely. I love how these youngsters in US play like their A team, almost the same system, speed etc. Especially the OHs were great, they could use the ball well in attacking which is special for this age group. Only player I would criticise is the setter who seemed to be much worse than rest of the team and she was the reason why everyone was getting blocked and making errors in attacking at set 4. Also someone should teach her how to dump a 2nd ball :S

On Brazilian side, I have not seen a worse libero for a long time. Not to ruin the poor girls career but couldn't a volleyball country like Brazil find a better libero than her? She was targeted all match by the US servers and was receiving terribly.

USA-Italy will be a duel of OHs and bad setters I think. I think USA might win.

For Turkey-Japan, I think Japan might be in favor. Turkey relies alot on serves while receiving bad and seems like only the opposite can attack. I am sure Japan will stop her in block-defense since she is a relatively short opposite and can't go over the block. Lets see who will serve better!

I enjoy this tight competition between OHs, more importantly, all of the OHs are in teams where they can play in starting 6 whole season: Saliha in Poland, Ilkin in GS, Derya in Japan, Tugba in Kuzeyboru. I hope none of them will be injured and there will be more data for Santarelli to pick the 4th OH.

I think his choice of Ayca instead of a 5th OH made sense, since none of the OHs could be as useful as her in backrow. However, with Ayca in the back, there is no chance for a pipe attack which makes it obvious that the front OH will get most of the sets. This substitution could be more useful with another OH who could receive and at least attack ok from backrow.

With this, I hope it is last summer of libero Simge in the NT. Gizem Örge showed that she is much better and Simge was not needed at all during VNL. Ayca was used as a backrow substitution, not Simge either. Moreover, Simge is 32 already, so I would rather invest on Gizem and Ayca duo at this point.

Maja Jonsson worked at a local supermarket shop in the rather sleepy village of Sollebrunn for a living last year and played in the Swedish 2.Division for Bjärke. Now she is all of a sudden representing the Swedish Champions and was labeled a "diamond" by the management. The Swedish newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad referred to her as "jättetalangen" which means "huge talent" in English. How the tables turns. Btw, once another tall Swede emerged in Engelholm as a rocket on her first road up to the volleyball skies, Isabelle Haak.

Maja Jonsson is listed as 196 cm by VolleyBox but could just as well be taller, like 200 cm. I am 185 cm and felt extremely short standing besides her, lmao. This is the type of player Sweden needs. With a strong Camilla Weitzel type of player in the middle its insane how ameliorated Swedish NT would be in the future.

Omg! I remember my girls playing against her in VSS (local tournaments) 4-5 years ago and already back then, she was a giant, being very clumsy. I heard that she improved a lot though, have better control of her body.

On the other hand, this shows the problem of the Swedish volleyball in general: "no matter how talented or physically perfect you are, there is no place where you can improve yourself". Engelholm might be the only exception but I still feel like Bella was just a miracle. It will be very difficult for Maja to catch up at international level, I mean most of her competitors have been training twice a day, 5 days a week while she has been training 2-3 times a week in VK Bjärke. I was surprised that she did not join RIG where she could at least get more training hours.

Btw, I think the primary problem of Swedish NT is setters and I don't see anyone coming soon to fix this problem. Naturalising a player to that position might make miracles for the Swedish NT and make volleyball more popular, increasing investments etc. Btw serdar don't you remember Julevik? She was playing in your old club, Tuve VK and won the U18 mastership in Sweden.

Congrats to Turkey! This is not new, Turkey has been playing finals, semifinals in recent years but never reached gold, so I hope finally they will break that threshold and get the gold, it will be a good award of many years of hard work.

I was very happy to see Poland in semi finals but didn’t want them to be in finals for that reason. It’s the first summer they made such a big jump after a long pause and I hope they will keep pushing in upcoming summers, finally reaching gold in 1-2 years.

For yesterdays game, you can’t thrash USA for losing to Turkey and saying they played terrible. Yes, first 2 sets were bad but then they showed what a deep bench they have and what they could do as a team. Frantic was unstoppable and Lanier looked silent but was efficient. Also love Wong Orantes, without her, Turkey could score much easier. Karch was a little too late to bench Drew’s but I think he did a good job trying Skinner, then Frantti; also replacing both MBs. I was surprised that we didn’t see Carlini at all, not with a double substitution.

On Turkey’s side, it was a bold move by Santarelli to have such a receiving line but I guess he just wanted to wait until USA could damage that line up, which didn’t happen until the end of 3/4th sets. I like what he did with Ayca. Worse were unfortunately setters from Turkey, especially Cansu looked very amateurish.

Tonight’s match against China will be though. I would prefer Poland which looked more fragile. When China holds their receiving, they play a very smooth game which is very difficult to stop. Not sure if Turkey can break their receiving line tonight and force them to play off system. On the other hand I think China is also good from the serve line, Derya-Ebrar line up won’t be able to hold long, and with off system play, China will build a wall. It might depend on how well Ilkin will hold the receiving when she comes in.

Anyway, I hope we will watch a good final and thanks to all teams, players and countries for good quality volleyball that entertained us for over a month.

Lol can we please block volleySrb and Cofi (+Andrea Vilar) commenting on anything related to Turkey? It’s like Hitler commenting on Jews. Freedom of speech but still sounds wrong.

Meanwhile 2023 and we have only VNL as a comparative platform when it comes to volleyball. When ECH and other tournaments start, we can argue who is better or worse. So far, Turkey is better than all European teams except Poland.

Just logged in to read hatered towards Turkey again lol. When will you guys just learn to say congrats and stop overlooking what Turkey brings to the world of volleyball. I am glad we have such competitive teams who are bringing lots of entertainment so that we as voleyball spectators can enjoy good quality volleyball.

Thank you Serdar and many others for doing a good job.

Can admins please do something about the hate towards Turkey in this forum at one point? I really dont want to follow this forum since everytime I enter, I see racist people bringing up some things Turkey did bad while they apply double standards when it happens to any other country. It is funny because despite all of these happening, I did not see a Turkish user being so obsessed with a nation so far and criticizing their volleyball culture/teams/players again and again particularly (except Serdar hating Busa lol).

Aside from Haak are there any other promising players from Sweden to watch out for?

I am rooting for Sweden of course. Besides other promising players (not many unfortunately), this will change Sweden's interest to volleyball completely. Today the problem is lack of investments, most elite teams have troubles to find sponsors, most pro players are signed with only 50% contracts and such. That's why a lot of youngsters with fine potential quit volleyball early, unless they get a contract abroad. So I will be very happy if Swedes can finally watch their team in a place like VNL, on tv, playing 4-5 matches a week.

Heja Sverige! Wohooo! I am so glad for this team! Being in VNL can make miracles in Sweden, most likely doubling interest to volleyball in short period. I know it is a far dream but I hope it will happen.

Meanwhile, Van Gestel gurl, some things she did on court today looked mmm as if she did not want Belgium to win :D
