Wow, I LOVE that site. HD Superslow motion, again!Nah, it's too far away from my city

Nah, it's too far away from my city
And far, far, far away from mine

I think this year's WL will be a total shit and none of the teams will take it seriously. Just like hockey WC's in Olympic years. Every team will come with its bench players and give the others rest from the long season and prepare them for OG. I really hope Bulgaria won't be the only foolish country and Stoychev won't torture Kazyiski, Vlado and Zhekov just before the OG (if we are going to quallify before that).
I don't think it's appropriate to have World League when you have Olympic Games because all of the key players will be deadly exhausted. And on the one hand we are lucky to be hosts to such a competition but, on the other hand, we're unlucky to be hosts when this competition has it's least value. -
Nah, it's too far away from my city
And far, far, far away from mine
And far away from mine as well. But so what? Yes, I live almost in the south part of Poland, but that won't stop me from seeing my guys on WL. I was close to be on Memorial, didn't work out, now I promised myself that I'll do everything to be there. I can't let myself down
Ergo Arena is the most beautiful arena everAnyway....changes again...great FIVB. This is at least weird to me...

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 17, 2011 – FIVB Volleyball World League defending champions Russia will take on Japan, Cuba and Serbia in Pool A following the confirmation of the groups and schedule for 2012 during the FIVB Sports Events Council meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland on Saturday. The 23rd edition of the world’s premier annual men’s volleyball event will be held from May 18 to July 1 with the Finals set to take place in Sofia, Bulgaria from July 4 to 8.
For the first time in the tournament’s history, the World League Intercontinental Round, still featuring 16 teams across four pools, will be played in four weeks with each country hosting all four teams in their respective pool on one weekend each. Each pool will play at the same time with the exception of the first weekend which will take place between May 18 and 27 to fit in with the various continental competitions also taking place at the time. The second weekend will be held from June 15 to 17 ahead of the third from June 22 to 24 and the fourth from June 29 to July 1.
The change in competition format is to accommodate a busy schedule which includes qualification tournaments for the London 2012 Olympic Games and also takes into consideration other sporting events which currently crowd the calendar ahead of the Olympics.
Pool A will begin in Japan before the attention turns to Cuba following a number of World Olympic Qualification Tournaments before the four teams travel to Russia and finally Serbia. While Russia will be preparing for the Olympic Games having already qualified at the 2011 World Cup, Japan, Serbia and Cuba will need to navigate the tournament whilst also taking into consideration their Olympic Games qualification progress at the same time.
Nine time champions Brazil, silver medallists last year, will be looking to add a 10th gold medal to their tally but will have to battle last year’s bronze medallists Poland as well as Finland and Canada, with the latter returning to the tournament for the first time since 2007 having beaten Slovakia and Puerto Rico during the qualification rounds. With both Poland and Brazil already qualified for the Olympic Games, it will be Canada and Finland who will need to stretch their resources across London qualification and the World League. The Canadians will host the opening weekend before the teams travel south to Brazil and then across to Europe for weekends in Poland and then Finland.
Italy, eight time winners, and Olympic champions USA will be favourites to top Pool C as they battle with France and Korea, who both had disappointing campaigns in 2011. It is the third year in a row that France and Italy have been paired together, with the Italians winning six of their eight encounters across both previous editions. All four teams will intertwine their campaign with qualification for London, with Italy hosting one of the European le Olympic qualification tournaments halfway through the World League.
Pool D features Germany, Argentina, Portugal and Finals hosts Bulgaria in what is expected to be a tight battle. With Argentina featuring in last year’s Finals in Gdansk and Germany narrowly missing out, both will fancy their chances for a ticket to Sofia. There is history between Argentina and Portugal also, with the two teams clashing last year, the South Americans coming out on top.
Like 2011, the Finals will feature six teams, with the four pool winners and best runner-up joining Bulgaria.
FIVB Volleyball World League 2012 Intercontinental Round Pools
Pool A – Russia, Serbia, Japan, Cuba
Pool B – Brazil, Poland, Canada, Finland
Pool C – Italy, USA, France, Korea
Pool D – Germany, Argentina, Portugal, BulgariaThis schedule seems lamer every time I read it again. Some of the team should participate the world qualification of OG just in the middle of this tournament. I can hear the complaint about unreasonable schedule and fatigue problem.
Besides, there seems to be only 48 matches in total. That's lame too. -
16 teams = 4 pools
4 tournaments per pool = 4 x 6 matches (2 games per day) = 24 matches
24 matches x 4 pools = 96 matchesso there should be 96 matches excluding final tournament in Bulgaria

why? only 3 matches will be played per tournament! Host team with each of the other 3 teams.
-
Each country will host 3 matches in their country.
Friday, Team A v Team B & Team C v Team D
Saturday, Team A v Team C & Team B v Team D
Sunday, Team A v Team D & Team B v Team C6 matches in one weekend for one pool, 4 pools = 24 matches, 4 weekends = 96 matches
You always play 4 matches against one country in the World League, just that this time the 4 matches are in 4 weekends, not 2 weekends.
-
Got it. In former editions, four matches are 2 home and 2 away, but in 2012 they will be 1 home, 1 away and 2 in a third country.
I dislike this WGP-style formula very much. previous editions are much like a league. -

really? are you sure it is that way?

Yes
more less similar "weekends" tournaments are at WGP (but of course women play in different competition so final standing is counted for all pools together) -

So actually I got the formula the right way . It's great cause we'll have a lot of matches to watch, so the WL won't be that crippled as we thought it may be because of the OGs. Yes, it is much more optimized this time, but I think this decision is not bad - that would stimulate the participants not to negelct the touranment this year. Now I'm curious to see the new format in action, just for a change. -

yes you got it right. I was wrong , sorry for misleading youanyway maybe the formula won't be sobad for players, but I am afraid the host country will not broadcast all the matches in which doesn't participate...hope not, too...

FIVB will require that non-host country matches are broadcast, but they may not be seen in the host country. I have a feeling I will only be able to watch the US matches on TV, but not the other teams in the group (unless the US is in them).
