2014 FIVB World Championship - Italy - 9/23

As Piervi had written before, Pool E - A+D will play in Bari & Trieste, while Pool F - B+C will play in Verona & Modena ^^
IMHO it's weird that first matches are listed on 10:30  it should be at least 14:00...

The main reason for the matches happening at the same time in different cities is to prevent losing on purpose. I know that they have made the 2nd and 3rd place teams have a draw for the 3rd Round.

The FIVB has finally done this after years of complaining. The last example was during the 2012 Olympic Qualifying for Asia/World with Japan winning their two sets while Thailand won the match. Japan knew that it needed to win those two sets and did it. If the Korea match had been played at the same time, then it would made a difference possibly.

I would have preferred that the final 2 matches in the 2nd Round be as have the 1st place teams (A1-D1) and 2nd place teams (A2-D2) play at the same time in different cities, not in the same venue.

Thompson with 15 points! Does anybody know where she will play next season?

  • Thompson with 15 points! Does anybody know where she will play next season?

Thompson played in Evreux VB in France in last season, but team dropped out of first league after poor season. Thompson left team and it seems that she's free player :D

She's still very young and talented player. I hope she will play in good team next season.

  • She's still very young and talented player. I hope she will play in good team next season.

Thompson was leader in her club, she was 7th best scorer with 311 points (4.04 per set) unfortuantely other teammates didn't help her and team with only 10 points in 22 matches took last place in French Ligue A

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • After 3 days of games in game are Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico, rest is too weak. Even Costa Rica is surprisingly much more weaker than few years ago.

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • Last qualified team is Mexico, in key match they beat Trinidad & Tobago 3-0 (14-25 29-31 17-25). Surprisingly Andrea Rangel wasn't driving force of team in that match. Lizbeth Sainz and Claudia Rios made the biggest effort. By Trinidadians the best were Chanon Thompson and Krystle Esdelle, but it wasn't enough.

    Final Pools' Composition:
A: Italy, Dominican Republic, Germany, Argentina, Croatia, Tunisia
B: Brazil, Serbia, Turkey, Canada, Cameroon, Bulgaria
C: USA, Russia, Thailand, Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Mexico
D: Japan, China, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Belgium, Azerbaijan

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • POOL B IS A POOL OF DEATH!

  • I don't know it depends on the games.. China is not so one-player-oriented team.. Maybe Obmochaeva? De la Cruz?

Obmochave couldnt play in all the matches, she may enjoy some rest against some weak opponents and Malykh can play, therefore i dont think she can..
De La Cruz is also amonsgt the likelist candidates for best scorer.

  • It's very likely that next Women's World Championships will be in Japan :cheesy: FIVB is negotiating with Japanese broadcaster - TBS television.

I don't see this as a bad thing. If China wanted to host that would work as well. Brazil has too many things going on right now, World Cup and Olympics in 2016, but I think that it would be a great host as well.
