Japan Women’s NT 2020

  • Ishii is reliable but if anything, she's more of a filler. She's not that player that will increase the chances of a team to make it far. She wasn't even able to push Hisamitsu to the top as a captain, they sank. Her spike speed tends to be slower and then her attacks become overly predictable. Shinnabe was the one who handled all the tough attacks.

Yes, "Leader" is not a term one can apply to Yuki

  • On another note, not that any of us here can vote since this is only available in Japan, but Oricon has opened their annual poll for favorite athletes. People can vote via Oricon's app.

Last year the only volleyball player to make the cut is of course Miyashita at 10th place. Sasuga crybaby https://www.oricon.co.jp/special/53730/

Maybe I'll start watching table tennis. It's like volleyball except smaller, and you can hit the ball after it bounces.

Shame there are no curling or badminton players on the list. Those are some sports.

  • Almost a decade ago, you can't even be in consideration for a best receiver award in a competition with 30% efficiency of reception.

    During this era, it's possible...:white:

In my opinion, that's what complicates Japan's strategy on moving forward as a team.

Serve had become an equalizer nowadays but the physically weak and technically gifted from a decade ago are having more problems dealing with this reality.

Japan needs an ace player to solve the most difficult balls but everyone knows Nagaoka isn't that girl anymore or even Kurugo,Koga and Ishikawa.

It has to be someone else.

If there's no one, Japan will always fall back on Ishii as the best "defensive specialist" who can attack in the lineup.

Favorite players: M: Maxim Mikhaylov, Murilo, Serginho, Aaron Russell, Otavio, Simone Giannelli, Ivan Zaytsev, Tsvetan Sokolov, Michał Kubiak, Mariusz Wlazly, Pawel Zagummy W: Sheilla, Zhu Ting, Natalia, Fe Garay, Fofao, Gabi, Thaisa, Foluke Akinradewo, Wei Qiuyue, Ding Xia, Carli Lloyd, Fabi, Natalia Goncharova, Yuko Sano, Saoris Kimura and Sakoda

I've been curious about that for a long time. I thought it was because they changed the way they calculate/display, like if they switched from Kill% to Hitting% for "attack", or in the way they judge an "excellent".

    :serve:

  • There's no one. I don't think there will be a huge difference in the roster. If Nakada was already gearing for a secret weapon she would have brought them out during the red & white match. All four girls are still far superior than 10 ishii's combined imo.

Aratani is one to watch as I mentioned in V league thread but her MB position makes it complicated. I don't know if she's on Nakada's radar. Okayama's lefty Watanabe is also decent though far from being as good as Nagaoka.

  • The media is already obsessed with Mayu so JVA's execs (and not necessarily Nakada) is dead set on making her rise to the occasion. Considering her brother is the only major headline right now, I'm sure there's tremendous pressure for her to prove herself. I don't think anyone else would be able to overshadow Mayu.

I don't see Nagaoka taking any risks after her last surgery.

We should just give up on arguing about ishii's starting role. I remember in one of FIVB's highlight videos one of the top comments said Ishii is a failed cut-shot experiment... I think about it every time I watch her play

  • failed cut-shot experiment

What does that mean? I googled it and all I got was about failed tax cuts in Kansas

  • Nakada has a message for everyone this season. It'll broadcast via Gaora Sports on Sat/Sun. I wish these things would get subbed but it's not like Gaora will even upload it on their youtube.

also some people pointed out on twitter that shit went down under Ishii's JVA post. It got so bad they actually closed the comment section a couple of hours ago:what: apparently one of the staff from 一般財団法人全日本大学バレーボール連盟 commented something really nasty which pretty much became a chain effect of negativity targeting ishii. The staff is related to the V.League MC, Motoko Obayashi :( and because of that. she deleted her post on IG of the Women's V league

JVA has never closed their comment section before right? I checked it out and hers is the only one closed. What did they say? It must have been extremely personal to the extent that Hisamitsu demanded they disable comments.

yeah...i think this is a first. idk what he and the others said, i never saw the comments. but this already started when ishii was used to as the main rep for tokyo olympics for women's NT . it's not an isolated case because even her twitter was trashed by trolls. the interest rate for the women's NT has also fallen ever since Ishii became the main rep and the crowd favorites Kurogo and Koga got injured and Miyashita getting excluded from big games

  • What did they say?

    I'm able to understand some like;

    "please retire earlier"

"has very little contribution and achievements"

    "overrated and mediocre"

    For the staff, I guess s/he says Ishii;

"(low lvl) undeserved to be in starting line"

not 💯 translation, just my discussion with friend about that post :gone:

  • Poor Yuki :rose: Having low Laminated Veneer Lumber (lvl) is not fun. I'm still with you girl. Come sit with me on the bench

  • As I mentioned earlier, Ishii is just kind of there. She is a decent player, but against bigger European teams, most of all Japanese players are going to have challenges.
Ishii in 2018 played 45 sets, and scored 81 kills on 218 swings, 34 errors (blocked or hit out of bounds). So 47 positive points, or just over 1 point per set.

In 2019 World Cup, she was Japan’s leading scorer 158 kills, 414 swings, 57 errors in 44 sets.

Team had 1,630 swings, so Ishii had 25.4% of Japan’s swings. Positive points of 101 in 44= 2.29 points per set.

Zhu Ting had 36 sets played and 153 kills, 22 faults on 280 swings. 3.64 positive points per set on way fewer swings. Led the best spiker stat (kill/attempt). Team had 1,080 attempts so Zhu was 25.9% of China’s swings.

Height Zhu 198 cm, Ishii 180 cm.
