Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2023/24

  • It should be forbidden to have to play twice within 48 hours. Potsdam only had a five-set away game in the Champions League on Thursday. I also don't know why Champions League games can't be scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The rules should be changed

it can be scheduled on Tuesday or Thursday as well but it has to be a decision of the home team, in this case Potsdam played away so probably they couldnt change the date.

Then the Suhl-Potsdam game should have taken place on Sunday. In football you don't have to play Thursday and Saturday. There needs to be more support from the Volleyball Bundesliga.

It's the same with the cup semifinals. They are all played late on Thursday evening and all teams have to play 2 days later in the league.

But I would speculate that it was more due to Sport1 than to the VBL. Okay, then of course it's the same point as with the CL thing, since you could then change the other game. But it's not as simple as it sounds.

All you have to do is look at the hall occupancy. Most Bundesliga clubs naturally share their halls with other clubs and are not the main users. That's why, for example, the game Potsdam against Dresden, which takes place on the match day after the cup semi-final, cannot be postponed by a day because the hall there is already occupied by the handball players from Potsdam.

And there are other factors too - despite Stuttgarts team is indeed the prime user of SCHARRena, there are (reconstruction) issues with football games in the stadium, where it is integrated (despite admission is seperated), so football schedule can cause postponements or switching to another day of the weekend (was the reason for the Stuttgart vs. Schwerin postponement yesterday).

  • Apparently due to illnesses of players, Münster today is playing with only 1 MB (van Clewe) and 4 OH/OPPs :white: Van Clewe is lined up as OPP so they play like Peru in 1988 OG and Vakifbank in the early 2000s when Buzayev was the coach.

Japan also played this style while Haruka Miyashita was starter in the early 2010s, right?

  • I just came across something that was actually announced on November 30, 2023 and may even be a premiere. On February 3, 2024, VC Olympia Dresden and Dresdner SC will team up even more than usual and organize a double game day in the Margon Arena. This double game day also has a lot to offer with two derbies. The “Ostderby” Dresdner SC against SSC Palmberg Schwerin was already planned for that day and now the “Sachsenderby” between VC Olympia Dresden and ESA Grimma Volleys, which was actually planned for two weeks earlier, has also been postponed to this date. What makes this possible is that, curiously enough, both the team from Dresden and the team from Grimma actually had no games that weekend.

On February 3, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., VC Olympia Dresden will meet the ESA Grimma Volleys in the Margon Arena and the game Dresdner SC against SSC Palmberg Schwerin will start at 7:00 p.m. in the same arena. This game in the Margon Arena will certainly be an absolute highlight for both the players from VC Olympia Dresden and the Grimma team.

  • And on top of that there is the refusal to play a home game on Sport1. What are such clubs doing in the Bundesliga?

Currently fifth team of ten in the league with course to the upper group for the intermediate round - not too bad, I think, but it seems, everything else is neglected by them.

  • Suhl really became kind of the bad boy of the league. It starts with a, in my eyes, often very provocative tone in their Instagram stories (especially against the referees) and ends with a coach who for sure is doing a great job volleyball-wise but who is also so hot-tempered that he sometimes seems to lose control of his behaviour. Next to this, the home crowd or let's say a part of it is highly unfair.

Besides that I really like that every year they seem to find great players, that before they play there, no one really has on their list.

  • Wow that comes as a surprise :white: So I guess Tutku Burcu will be out for a longer time and probably Hänle wasn't all too happy in Suhl  Anyway Suhl still has Kindermann who has also been doing a very good job and they say they'll look for a replacement but won't rush anything.

  • The German teams will be taking part in the European competition again this week. Unfortunately we have to say goodbye to at least one team due to the German-German duel. In addition, unfortunately all games this week (at Sportdeutschland.tv) are behind a paywall. There are the following European games for the German teams:
