Japan - V.League V1 (Division 1, Women) 2020-2021

  • The thing is that even she plays as outside hitter, the Japanese team won't let her receive mostly. Mostly foreign players in Japan are to score, the team have someone else to receive for them like Kulan in Toray. You know in Japan they have lots of players can receive.

But kulan is awful at passing

Beside sorokaite playing always as opposite, she did pretty well in firenze 2 years ago at OH,she was one of the best player that year and also receiving well

  • I’m sure she’s making more in Japan than she ever could in Italy and Turkey. Playing for Italy and Turkey is not the end all be all. I have to remind myself too when my fav players leave good teams, that at the end of the day some of these women and men are trying to set themselves up financially for life later.

You're probably right. But wouldn't have hurt if she had a CL title on her belt.

  • You're probably right. But wouldn't have hurt if she had a CL title on her belt.

She had 1 silver in CL and 1 gold Club Championship with Rabita, so it's something. Probably she likes to know different places, challenge herself against the big teams, or maybe she had enough of superteams with the Rabita experience.. Nonetheless I think it would be fun to see her in a powerhouse league, but she seems to really like Japan - and they treat her like a Goddess, so no point trying to go to Turkey or Italy I suppose

  • Here's a zoomable google map with Team HQs, Home Gyms, and Home Games for 2020-21

  • Okayama's practice gym:

No wonder they never smile. It must be stressful getting their bus down that dirt road

  • Nice to hear they resumed it.

My beloved brother sitenoise 's NoSmilers won this tournament once.

What's gonna happen to Empress Cup and Kurowashiki Tournament?

I had no idea this "V Cup" was a thing before. Do you have a link about it? I thought it was something invented this year to extend the season due to the shortened version to allow for Olympic training. The NT members will not participate with their club teams in the V Cup tournament. No announcement if foreigners will play or not --I assume they will if they have a contract.

The Empress Cup is in a weird state because all the preliminary (local and regional) rounds were cancelled this year. It's still on the schedule for December when it has usually been held. Maybe all the V.League teams can/will still contest it. It's a good paying gig for a couple week's work -- 10,000,000 yen. For comparison, winning the V.League nets 15,000,000 (I think I'm remembering that correctly)

Prefecture Round (cancelled) April to July 2020
All over the country All over the country
Block round (cancelled) Sept. to Oct. 2020
All over the country All over the country
    Final round 12/11-13, 12/19-20, 2020
    Ota Ward, Tokyo

I presume the Kurowashiki Tournament will still be played next year. No reason to think it's going away. It's usually contested in May. The V Cup ends March 28. Kurowashiki usually signals the end of the season

  • Is this the V Cup (former tournament NEC Red Rockets won in 2000) again or the Empress Cup?

I see on Japanese Wiki pages a mention of V Cup. NEC won in 2000, NoSmilers in 2001, Hisamitsu in 2002. No link about it, and that appears to be the only years it was contested. I'll be darned

[Edit] Nice opportunity for NEC to win it again. The finals are on their home turf in Tokyo. Ota Ward Gymnasium.

they are trying not to use any Olympic venues, like Yoyogi, Tokyo Metropolitan Gum or the Ariake Arena.

V Cup was 2000-2002 and played prior to the regular season. Teams were split into East and West groups with the winners advancing to semis/finals. Would have been contested with all the teams in the Top Level.

  • Wonder which JVL teams is in need of a setter?

    Toyota

  • Why? Who they have now?

Yuki Yamagami has been the setter since Momoko Higane retired. She had a good run while in HS/Uni but I haven't seen anything worth praising from her since joining Toyota.

  • sitenoise which team has red white and blue jersey colors?

I read some article that state the thai flag color is the team she(Pornpun) will likely be part of.

So I guess Denso and NEC are likely out from being mainly red....
