19th Asian Games - Hangzhou 2022 (23 Sept - 8 Oct 2023) - Women’s Volleyball Tournament (30 Sept - 7 Oct)

  • XIX Asian Games - Hangzhou

This thread is mainly about the women’s volleyball tournament of the games. It’s a

little strange to be calling the games “Hangzhou 2022” when we’re already in 2023

but a lot has happened in the last few years and a postponement is better than a

    cancellation.

There are still some issues to be sorted out, but I thought I’ll just go ahead to start this thread.

  • Was this the tournament Russia is rumored to join? Or has that been scrapped as well lol

    Changed the title of the thread from “19th ASIAN GAMES - HANGZHOU 2022 (23 Sept - 8 Oct 2023)” to “19th Asian Games - Hangzhou 2022 (23 Sept - 8 Oct 2023)”.
  • Chinese Women's Volleyball Team always gives a high priority to the Asian Games, the continent's largest multisport event, even more than the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship. In the last edition in 2018 hosted by Indonesia, China also despatched a full A team minus the injured Zhang Changning to Jakarta and won the gold medal.

Are you watching the Girl’s u19 WC’ship...China is playing Thailand at

    here

The Chinese girls played badly while Thai team was great. The Chinese girls were quite sluggish, no agility at all, painful to watch! Dunno players of this age in China, or any better stock of this age generation there, 16-18 yo. These U19 players will need lots of improvement to grow into serious players in future.

I believe a few of the eligible players have gone to strengthen the u21 squad. This weakened the u19 team (will elaborate in the China NT thread on this). But still they were expected to win, but they put in a poor performance. But take nothing away from the Thais, they threw everything at the Chinese, they were fearless in their attack, led by captain Warisara, who has already played for their senior side.

It was a good experience for the young players of both sides. We will definitely see more of them in future.

  • The Hangzhou Olympic Center Stadium, the main stadium of the games is also known as the “ BIG LOTUS “

Thanks Julian, the standstill capture of the Hangzhou's newly built stadium for hosting the 19th Asian Games is awesome (I'll also use your capture elsewhere 😄 )

  • The torch relay of the Hangzhou Asian Games came to Ningbo on September 12. As the Rio Olympic champion and the current captain of the Chinese women's volleyball team, Yuan Xinyue participated in the torch relay and started the relay as the first torch bearer in Ningbo.

They are better than all the OHs in previous Cai Bin’s teams, except for Li Yingying.

Here are some links to recent matches which they played...
