so let's say a team wins a set, the stats might indicate 11 kills, 5 blocks, 3 aces and 6 opp. errors, adding to 25 pts.
Please indulge me for a moment because this has troubled me forever. I actually opened a Twitter last year just to discuss this with Clayton Lucas because he was bemoaning the fact that not every tournament labels the errors as "opp. errors" and you can't be sure what's being shown--a team's errors or opp errors. FIVB does it right, and they usually add up to the score as you suggest. If it's not labeled "opp errors" I try grabbing the "errors" and flipping them to see if I can score 25.
To no avail. Japan Clubs--okay they get a lot of things wrong. Montreux, maybe same. VNL, maybe just a preliminary stat sheet, and then they got it right on the web site. But man, I see it all the time and try the error flipping thing.
There are "Team Faults" that could factor in, but I don't know what they are beyond a rotation error or a red card.
This has troubled me forever
I guess FIVB does strict set stats to equal the score (in theory). And then on their statistics page does differentiate between an "Unreturnable Serve"! and a reception error? That's what receiving "Faults" are? Errors?
