I think the difference is all of these setters were introduced earlier to the squad before they became the main setter. Carlini was already around when Lloyd was still the main setter of USA. Carlini was the setter during Pan Am Games. It wasnt very sudden.
Meanwhile, Japan integrated Momii just this year and immediately sent to the Olympics as main setter. She was good but she was also replaced by Tashiro several times during the Olympics.

Carli Lloyd was a decent setter though, if she plans to return on NT then I think the chance for Carlini gets slimmer by the minute

If she can have her Busto-Casalmaggiore (who defeated Vakifbank) form back, why not?

More than decent. I kinda feel bad when Lloyd gets mentioned around here and the subtle shade she gets everytime..but honestly before the shoulder injury and outside of the rigid system we wanted to play at the time, she was one of the better ones out there. She was a stud but I think its just wishful thinking at this point. Carlini would still be ahead of her.
Yeah I get that. Regardless it should be out of contest.
Look at Sheilla's return, you can not like Lloyd but Sheilla was known as a legend. The world spins one fixed way 🤷♀️ Currently I don't see her succeed in neither the current USA system or the top FIVB competitions.

Spot on, she had good seasons on Pomi and Brazil. I get that she sucked on Ecza big time, but still a 'decent' setter, that's why Carlini is just the backup when she was around.

KYK to AU is definitely a possibility now!
I always thought Larson was going to retire after olympics, or is that just NT?

That's what we all thought, but WCH is only a year away and unless she makes an official post about retiring I think we'll see her again next summer with the USA NT.

I just remembered her saying Olympic pushed back her retirement plan for a year but probably it has changed:)
I'm more than happy to see her playing until LA 2028

I've seen this dude interview Larson before...
why does Chinese news care? lol (and im surprised they have an English news?)
why does Chinese news care
because the women's volleyball national team is very popular in China, also this loss by the USA ensured Russia would advance over China to the QFs regardless of what would happen.

i just thought it was weird they interviewed her when she was home/it's been over lol
I've seen her on there for like Shanghai stuff but that makes sense.
