Italy - Serie A1 2015/16

  • Yes, of course. Cruz has been selected as best receiver just 5 times in her career, while it never happened to Leys. So, you're right, Leys is better receiver than Cruz. :rolll:

If she was called Aurea Cruzevic... :wavy:

  • Serie A is this season more interesting than ever, in my opinon.

It seems 7 teams could become champion...but, in my opinion Conegliano is a little bit better than the rest (Pomi, Novara, Modena, Foppa, Piacenza,Scandicci).

And She can receiv over 100 awards but her reception is terribel THIS season. Not last year, not before 5 years. THIS year her reception is very bad. But again it is very hard for you to understand. ;)

  • If we speak in general Aurea Cruz is better than Leys in both receiving and especially attack. However Cruz had very weak season in Rabita.. Her reception was very bad for a defensive OH.. Right now Leys is doing better than Aury.. However let's not hype Leys since her last 2 season in Poland and NT were disastrous and much weaker than the Leys we saw in ECH 2013

  • No, no I'm not talking about that she is better player than Aure Cruz overall. She is better in attacks but I'm just saying that her reception THIS season is very bad. From 43 players in CL from statistics recivers, She is ranking as number 41.

  • No, boy, I watch every single match of the Portorican NT and I can tell you Cruz is still a solid receiver. Maybe not anymore a world class recevier, but still better than Leys.

I watched Novara about 7/8 times this season, same history: best passer of her team. Sansonna is the one struggling the most.

  • The truth is Casalmaggiore, Conegliano and Piacenza are somehow stronger than Novara. That's all. Those teams will fight for the title. I can't see any hope for the others.

I don't think so. Why do you think Scandicci or Foppa has a chance? I would say Piacenza, Pomi, Novara (? I don't know who will be their new setter) and Conegliano has a chance to be the champion.

The other thing is the ball. I've heared a lot of opinions about it and some players say that it's easier to receive Moltens. Moltens are used in Italian league. As we know, in CL they use Mikasa.
And according to stats (Italian league) Cruz is better receiver than Tirozzi, Gennari, Horvath, Malesević, Bosetti etc.

I agree about that. Cruz is a very good defensive OH but I don't think she found her rhythm in Rabita or Novara yet. It takes some time to adapt yourself to a new team, their receiving line and defense system. On the other side, Leys is having a very good season so far. She is one of the top receivers in the turkish league, which has better serve quality than italian league, maybe due to the ball difference. I say this based on Neriman & Gözde Yilmaz's stats, compared to what they did in Turkey and Italy in terms of receiving. However I agree that Leys has ups and downs in attacking, so far she played only 2 bad matches in the league in attacking which she had around 35%, otherwise she has often 45-50% in attacking. :super:
When I checked Novara's stats, they don't seem to receive well, 25-30% perfect receiving is not enough when you play with 2 defensive OHs. Besides like someone mentioned, their MBs are not contributing to the score load. With these OHs, you need 2 scoring MBs in the game!

No way, she sucks. She will be the reason why Fabris won't win the championship :!: :D

And let's be honest once for all. She had 2 great seasons in Rabita, underperfoning just in the last one (2014-15), when the whole team was a mess.

Talking about the ball, yes, molten is far away better ball to play volleyball. Mikasa sucks so far. It is not only passing, but also setting. That ball is terrible. It was a nightmare when I was still a player and it was introduced.

I don't agree, but I think it depends what you are used to. I've always played Mikasa, first the old one and since some years the new one which indeed took quite some time to get used to. But then we played against a team from another region once which uses Molten and I though it completely sucks. The Molten ball seems a lot heavier (which is not possible according to the rules) and has a strange grip in setting, and we couldn't handle the Molten serves of the other team. When we played them with the Mikasa it was exactly the opposite :D

But overall, I think the Mikasa is slower and floats much more, whereas the Molten seems to be better for hard balls, e.g. jump serves.

  • I went to see Pomì tonight against Firenze.. the match wasn't that bad, Firenze didn't have anything to lose so they up a good fight, especially with a good work in block-defense. Turlea attacked 62 times and made 25 (plus two blocks) points, such a pleasure to watch her.. On the other side Picci didn't play full time but was well sub by Bacchi, the rest of the players were kind in shadow: they all had hard times in attack as Firenze managed to stop them. they weren't at their best level, now they have just to win against busto to keep the first place!

Can you tell me something about Calloni's performance? This season she seems to play significantly worse than last season, she hardly ever gets good attack % and also not many blocks. Is it just her playing bad or are the attack problems also related to the setter's performance?

  • The league standings midway through:

    1. Imoco Volley Conegliano 27
    2. Pomi' Casalmaggiore 27
    3. Igor Gorgonzola Novara 26
    4. Nordmeccanica Piacenza 26

    11. Obiettivo Risarcimento Vicenza 10
    12. Sudtirol Bolzano 9
    13. Il Bisonte Firenze 4

The top 4 teams look like they're going to battle it out for the title. At this point it seems like Conegliano has a slight advantage. Piacenza has done well to go through a rough patch with injuries to their key players relatively unharmed. Novara also didn't suffer as much in the standings considering their weak play for most of the season so far, they can still get it right. Vicenza, Bolzano and Firenza will fight to avoid relegation.
