• Only interesting player on the roster is setter Lauren Carlini, same of the other players alreday plays in Poland, Turkey etc.

I dont know, because I dont know the roster`s of the other teams.....

  • well, with such competition Hildebrand is just too weak, she had problems even in Polish league and was replaced not rarely by Kossanyiova, so I'm not surprised seeing her out

the same with Gibby - Adams and Akinradewo are better, while Dietzen is also ok and she's important player for Karch (I hope he won't take Thompson as 3rd S to Rio though  )

but I'm sad about Fawcett, now they have 2 similar OPs - Murphy and Lowe

  • IMO, Fawcett made bad decisions this season, first she went to play in a weak team in Chinese league and after went to Novara to play as OH. Anyway, I would take she and Murphy to the Olympics.

By the way, a nice article by Cassidy Lichtman about how she handled didn't make the final roster.

  • I think Karch is a smart coach. He will do the best decision for USA in Olimpics. He won World Championship and got new players for USA like Hill, Murphy, Adams, Lowe etc... I think that Karch will be able to hide game of USA and he will have to take the 2nd team for Final Six. He did a good decision about didnt take Fawcett to Rio. I think that about will take 3 setter to Rio will be a wrong decision by Karch Kiraly. Because every team must take 12 players not 14 players. Two setters are enough for every team. Alisha like the 1st setter and Lloyd the 2nd in Olimpics. After Olimpics Alisha will take time for maternity and next year Karch will be able to take Micha Hancock like a setter for Alisha's place

I find it amazing that she could actually even consider making the team for Rio :white: You don't even need to be an expert in volleyball to see how far ahead all other OHs in USA NT are ahead of her. Probably even some that are not in NT are better than Lichtman...

I definitely agree. I don't even know what Kiraly liked about her...

So sorry for Fawcett, she must be very disappointed right now, knowing how hard she has been working to make it to the Olympic games. :( So the two lefties are ensured now?

  • there were no more OPs, so IMHO Murphy and Lowe can pack suitcases for a trip to Brazil :wavy:

  • I find it really disgusting that some people wish their own nation NT fail in a tournament due to the coach's choices...even the players that are cut always make it so clear they will cheer for the team.

  • well, sidney, he's not a USAian, he's a fan of the USA. see his location.

Well, I wasn't actually talking about anyone specifically, otherwise I would have mention him.
I was making a general comment, since I see this kind of stuff all the time, especially here in Brazil.

  • Hi all! New here- but I occasionally read these threads and appreciate everyone's commentary.

I'm wondering: how do we know Fawcett is out for Rio? Is it just because Kiraly isn't bringing her to the final in Thailand, or is there a statement I've missed?

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he's decided Fawcett is IN for Rio, and is bringing Murphy and Lowe to decide whom the other OPP should be, between them. Fawcett has been so important to the team, and is clearly the best option for the double substitution.

    Just a thought, thanks!

  • Fawcett is out, if Karch told her, she's out. He is probably using the Grand Prix Finals as his final roster (excluding Easy injury) for Rio, unless someone gets injured. Thompson will be a defensive/serving specialist. I really doubt that she'll be dropped from the team because she is a huge part of the team's core culture.

  • I've read a few articles about this, so this isn't just an assumption. Right now I can't find the statement but if you search you'll find it!
NB also volleywood posted it so maybe you can try there!

I'm also quite disappointed with karch's decision as I too think fawcett was just better in double sub and I also see lowe a bit unstable

  • I think leaving Fawcett out of the roster for Rio is the right choice. Murphy and Lowe are better than her. She is a very overestimated player IMO, she actually never played in a high level league except this year in Novara and her performance was quite disappointing.
As regards the 3 setters, I think this would be an insane choice. I'd rather take one more OH like Easy or Klineman. USA have very skilled all-around OHs but they lack a bit of power in that position, I still don't understand why Klineman was not even given a chance..she could have been useful.

I don't agree that Fawcett is overestimated.. Actually I think people started talking highly about her, after last year's World Cup, since she was one of the USA's heroines, once Lowe started struggling. However you are right, she never played on some high level, neither in clubs or NT.. She is a solid player for sure, was really helpful as a part of the double sub, especially improved their blocking and serving (instead of Alisha during WCH) and her personality is also praised a lot by her teammates. So I don't think she was given the credit she deserved before this World Cup, but after it seems like people are expecting too much from her..
