2022 FIVB World Championship - POL/SLO

  • poland could co host the tournament with italy and poland

    Yess,come to france please

  • Following the approval of the FIVB Board of Administration and in consultation with media partners and key stakeholders, the competition formula for the event has been optimised. The new formula foresees maintaining the round robin format of the pool phase with six pools of four teams.

However, a total of sixteen teams – the top two teams of each pool and four best third-placed teams – will then qualify for the knockout phase of the competition. This knockout phase will feature the round of 16, quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals. As such, there will be a total of 52 matches played over the course of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

The adapted event formula allows for the consideration of multiple hosts for the pool phase, up to two hosts for the round of 16 and quarterfinals, and a maximum of one host for the semi-finals and finals.

  • Does this apply to the women too?

Or is this an one-off for the men because of the russia mess?

IMO what differs WCH to others is the long format - e.g. Poland wouldn't win in 2018 with their form and injuries in the early rounds

Please don't take away the fun.

I think its just for the men.

I don't see anything about the women's..... yet... the draw being postponed may change that.

  • So, will the pools be redrawn completely, partially or what?

Also, who will replace Russia? the team that was just left out by world ranking was Ukraine...

Qatar applied to be the host. In case they (FIVB) will pick their offer, Qatar should replace Russia.

It would only be the host. Everything is set up right now with Russia. The team/country hosting could replace them. However, if the host is already in the tournament, they could move the individual seeds. Not saying that this will happen, but if say Colombia hosted, straight swap. Whereas if it would be Brazil, then there would be movement.

  • There was supposed to be press conference today at 11 AM CET time, but looks like it was postponed :D

  • Of course the FIVB is going to just host yet another tournament in Poland 😔 What an awful, shameful decision. The interest in hosting was huge. Australia, Qatar, Turkey, Serbia... But of course the FIVB chooses easy money over actually having to promote this event.

It's ridiculous what the FIVB is doing, awarding almost all the tournaments to their 3-4 favorite countries. I mean, I'm not even exaggerating. Since 1998 the World Championships have been held in:

    1998 - Japan

2002 - Argentina (the only exception on this list)

    2006 - Japan

    2010 - Italy

    2014 - Poland

    2018 - Italy

    2022 - Poland

LITERALLY no other federation is doing this. If Basketball or eveb Handball, which is by far a smaller sport, can host World Championship tournaments in a wide variety of countries, why can't volleyball?

Thank God at least CEV isn't afraid of giving the European Championships to smaller countries. It's clear that Ary Graca's FIVB would be fine with pretty much killing international volleyball in most of the world, as long as they'd get to leech money from the countries where it already is popular.

The interest here in Poland is not really even that big this time around. I remember the excitement for WC 2014. Now even the major Sport news outlets don't great this as Important news. Most people just shrug and are like "oh, so we have yet another volleyball tournament. Cool."
