2022 FIVB World Championship - POL/SLO

  • it was funny to see American reserve players dancing in middle of the 5th set when the score was tied. they were supposed to be nervous in such an important match.

I believe Americans didn't really realize they are in danger of elimination until 11-11 in 5th set.

Great job by Turkey, they were just inches away from a big win.

I had the same feeling at that point, but soon I realized most of their bench players are literally cheerleaders and be there just to fill up the 14 spots. Two of them I don’t even know they are in the NT before.

  • well, Javier Weber is there on the US bench for a reason lol but their problem seem to run deeper than Speraw, they don't seem to have nowhere near as much talent as the women

for sure. Womens volleyball is the most participated girls sport in the country. Men's volleyball basically only exists in like a handful of states (mostly west coast)

this is way off topic for this but American Football/Basketball are pretty much the biggest root causes for the mens talent pool being so small

  • I'll be honest, I dont follow the mens team that much... but im going to guess lack of options?

All of the best volleyball coaches are in the women's game cause the money is better. Foreign coaches are hard cause of the distance and commitment.

Maybe im off base lol idk.

You might be right but still I would expect a new coach. Speraw basically was a cheerleader in 2016 OG SF against Italy. He was the reason they couldn’t make to final. And I remember in that podcast Barnett guys is/was part of, they said they were proud of him and players because they think 3rd place in the Olympics is a good result. With that team, it wasn’t. And I am not even going to talk about last year’s performance. I really was surprised they renewed his contract.

I forgot his name, but I think I seen something about one of USA's top high school volleyball players is also a highly recruited American football quarterback. He plays both sports, but surely he'll go the football route.

I was meaning in regards to Title IX lol

but yea, there’s also the sports themselves being a problem.

  • Another tiebreaker, another close game lost against USA🤦

I think team has a lot of potential but as mentioned above,

    1) we have a terrible trainer who is there just as a representation of our corrupted country. With him standing on the bench, the team is dragged to be drown

    2) so many injuries: Efe Mandıraci, Efe Bayram, Yiğit gülmezoglu, Yasin Aydın, Murat Yenipazar, Vahit Emre Savaş etc.

In the absence of so many good outsides, Burak stepped up his game a lot and he performed way better than expected. Especially his blocking skills are surprisingly good considering the fact that he is only 189 cm:white: Burutay played well at certain sets but he was off in some too. I think Mirza should have been utilized better, obviously he is a liability at reception and defense but his attacking is insane, he can consistently attack over block :obey:

Bedirhan was good but I think it is time to trust Ahmet Tümer as second MB, this could have been his breakout tournament in the absence of Vahit Savaş Emre.

I'm happy with our libero duo, finally Nedim Özbey stop nepotism a bit and didn't include GS's useless libero to the final roster.

Arslan did a great job this tournament. I hope he will play with NT till Paris🙏

Adis doesn't need any comment, he is already one of the most elite opposites in Europe💪

USA has been very messy this tournament. They are far from their shape in VNL. So I don't think Poland will have a hard time to sweep them at quarters

  • Turkish twitter is divided and fighting over this tweet… porntasche is commonly used joke in talk shows etc. I am not sure whether Kyle Russell would mind though.

  • I only just realised Ukraine is playing Slovenia instead of France (playing tonight) in the QF - weird scheduling.

Ukraine is definitely capable of another upset there!
