Japan Women's NT 2024

  • Here's the official press release from JVA

The Japan Volleyball Association held the "FORWARD VISION" event to announce its mid- to long-term management plan and new branding.

The event announced a new medium- to long-term management plan. The mid- to long-term management plan sets a goal of growth by 2028, based on the four pillars of social contribution, marketing, representative reinforcement, and promotion of competitions, while creating interaction among them. In the area of national team enhancement, the plan calls for men's and women's volleyball teams to win medals every year from 2024 onward, and beach volleyball teams to win medals in 2024 and 2028. In beach volleyball, we set goals for men and women to compete in the 2024 and 2028 Olympics, and for the women to win a championship and the men to place in the 2026 Asian Games. Thus, by establishing a medium-term management plan for every four years starting in 2024, the company also announced its long-term vision that looks beyond that plan until 2040.

This is not at all realistic for the women's right now they're way behind in "globalization" and Manabe failed to take one step towards that. Koga isn't an international figure and at her age she will never be. Mayu is just starting her career in Italy. It's more attainable for the men's team since they're already leading in both global status and they can be marketed easily whereas the women's team don't have that (yet)

I agree but a lot can change in the span of 1-2 years depending on the coach and new talent. During Ishikawa and Yanagida's time when Saori was still the figurehead of the sport things were moving slow for them as well but all that changed when exciting new players like nishida and ran takahashi came along. The article emphasizes the future starting with LA2028 so it won't start with Koga anymore.

Ultimately what matters is results. When Nishida arrived the men's team had a major upgrade in offense when Ran arrived they Ishikawa was able to take his genius to another level. Yanagida was always one-upping Ishikawa and that's why their dynamic didn't help either players to propel the team to bigger heights.

Koga's whole brand is based on marrying Nishida. Of course domestically that's different, she is the current queen of V League but that's not how NT systems operate and market anymore. Koga is not the most flexible player. On top of not choosing to play in any major league in Italy or Turkey, she has not led Japan in victory yet. The men's team under Ishikawa has broken records, Ran has broken records, on top of producing talents that can be used overseas like Kenta, Tatsunori and possibly Keihan Takahashi ALL YOUNG. Meanwhile Manabe only wanted Japanese people to see Koga as Saori's 2.0 based on his marketing not my personal opinion.

It also doesn't come as a surprise that the men's side were the first to get someone like Alain de Armas while JVA seemingly forces Manabe and staff to let Valdes and Santiago join their camp. Alain could be 10x better than Nishida.

  • It's no use continuously comparing the Men's and Women's team since they are in a completely different level now. Even before the Men's got a podium finish at VNL, popularity is very different.

Hinotori has way bigger problems than that :rolll: They can't even find their right combination of players yet  Regardless of the result this year, there are a lot of things that needs to be changed in how they handle the Women's NT, including the Coach. Enough of the next Saori or what. They need to start from scratch and really build a good program.

when you think about it valdes was the first to announce that she was willing to play for japan and the japanese press were already all over it before tokyo. there was hardly any exposure or news about alain de armas having the same intention but still got to the nt faster

The new plan of "winning medals every year" will prove to be problematic for the women's team because they're always a hundred steps behind not only the men's team but all the big national teams in general. Even China is sending their players to Vakif and other top teams. Thailand is sending their players to gain better skills. If Koga wants to be the proud wife that's fine. Araki always wanted the public to know that she's a proud mother. That has nothing to do with their abilities as players anyway it's just one facet of them as an individual. But without the reinforcements needed to make this team stronger then what medals can we expect them to win? Friendly matches like the one in France?

  • This is just a hunch but with Yoshihara freshly quitting JT she could have done that in order to prepare for selection once Manabe steps down

that might not be so bad. she's the only coach that has developed silent bombs like hayashi and wada

Definitely. I don't expect that they can do it. But it's not like they can declare a low goal. So even if it's not that realistic, I understand why they are declaring these big goals  Now, making it happen is a different problem altogether lol

  • Press con is a GO

Their motto this time is ONE TEAM ONE DREAM

I don't think anyone will be using #1 on their jersey since Kurogo is 16
