2020 Olympic Games - qualification

  • I actually watched Tugba in University games which happened these last 2 weeks, she was horrible, had troubles to kill the ball and her receiving was bad. I was hopeful about her 2 years ago but she is not a good prospect right now unless she plays for another VVSL team and proves herself.

The only player I am hopeful from young generations is Derya Cebecioglu. I hope she will have a good season in VVSL and be ready for the NT next summer.

  • Tuğba is probably mentally strongest Turkish OH, regardless of age, right now...

But she has really serious problems, She plays no defense for one...

Yaprak Erkek seems one step ahead of Tuğba, but she's a player of lowly İlbank and will probably forgotten like Ezgi Dağdelenler

Agree but she is a fighter also. VakifBank just wouldnt let her sign another team smh!! Tbh A.Ü. Yeşilyurt is a real dark horse this season with Tuğba-Derya oh duo

I think Yaprak Erkek should focus on perfecting her defensive skills, offensively there are many superior.

Aleyna Göçmen and Dalia Wilson are very good prospects too! I think Dalia-Zehra will be future MB duo.

Lets see how Yeşilyurt performs this season.

  • I love Tugba and her awesome serve but I’m not seeing a great future for her right now. You never what might happen in the next few years though I guess.

Lets see how Yeşilyurt performs this season.

They sure will but they are U16. They first should spend some time in VVSL and then we can see if they will be good enough for the NT. Derya looks like to closest option to be in the NT next year.

Tuğba's real problem is her defense, and that's probably the reason she can't get along with Guidetti...

Let's hope playing fullseason helps her in that element, she won't come back to Vakıfbank or be selected to NT unless she has a break-out season...

Yaprak's offense is underrated, she scored almost as many points as Derya, with similar efficiency in U20WCH, She's a different type of player though,

obviously her future rests in defense, She's on the short side, and not super-athletic but she's quite smart for her age (She's just 18), and I can see her to become Parubets-like if given enough attention..

  • I forgot about #17 Derya from the U20 squad. She looked beastly, possibly a bit of a pouter in waiting but better than Ercem maybe.

24 hours ago in this forum China wasn't that good and Turkey had a chance. Oh, the good ol' days :drink:

  • How many Turkish NT players play outside of Turkish league? Looking at the VNL rosters, only 1, Neriman in Japan.

While a Turkish League is strong, the players are not willingly take a chance to play in Italy, just to see how they would do there. More often that not I think that the Turkish league teams are propped up by the foreign talent. Are they good club teams, yes just like the premier league in England, however the national teams are not as strong.

I am not saying that having foreign players is a bad thing, actually this makes the overall sport better, best players in the best leagues. Just discussing Turkey getting close, but still distant from the top teams.

I think the main problem is 3 foreigners rule, which means good local Turkish prospects get good contracts with good salaries in Turkey which they probably could not get in other countries except Italy (local teams need 3 on court Turkish players as well as fine bench players). I think the federation should increase the foreign player limit so that local prospects are not offered crazy salaries to sit in benches of big teams in Turkey and play abroad.

  • Anyone knows why Ajcharaporn is never playing in this tournament? Is my favourite thai player injured?

Ajcharaporn, Hattaya, Pimpichaya. I miss them all and wonder "what could have been" against Poland

  • I don’t think Turkey is in that bad a position honestly. Let’s remember their best setter and OH (IMO) were unavailable for this competition. Ebrar is still developing and is already a very dangerous OPP, even today her numbers are good. Eda is one of the best MBs in the world and the other MBs aren’t bad at all. Simge’s level seems to have dropped for now but they have other good liberos, maybe not at the level of De Gennaro or Castillo or whoever but Gizem is a solid enough player and I believe Simge can get back to her 2018 level.

This team can’t reach the level China showed today but it’s not all bad, they will still be one of the top contenders in Euro qualifying and if Serbia and Italy win today then there is no team in that competition anywhere near China’s level.

  • Turkey would have qualified if they faced anyone besides China or Serbia.

China played perfect volleyball. Only Serbia and Egonu would stand a chance against them tonight.

They just got unlucky by having to face the OG Champs.

You know, Egonu plays in a team, Italy is its name. Otherwise I can call Serbia as "Boskovic" as well, since they need her to score 30 points in 3 sets in order to beat Thailand

Same goes to China. When match is close even from the start, Zhu gets 70% of sets, only when they start leading by 2 or 3 points than setter change the game and starts to play with everyone. And that is not bad tactis but China, Serbia and Italy are pretty the same when it comes to one player leading the team.

And Turkey is missing that, yes Ebrar showed some great matches but She is not leader and She can't carry her team on her own, not yet.

  • I asked in one of the FB live streams and someone apparently said she is, sadly. But on the other note, at least Chatchu-on was playing well in her absence.

What's with these young Thai players injured. Chatchu-on played good offense but she had a few costly errors when it mattered in serve and reception. That can happen to anybody but she, hmm, I was a little disappointed.

  • Russia x Korea starting in 10 minutes.. can't wait to see the battle between Goncha vs Kim.. I say both team has 50-50 chance :box:

Russia BADLY needs to win otherwise they take part in the CEV bloodbath..

A Korea win tonight means Thailand is almost surely getting the Asian ticket and that means 4 Asian teams going to the Olympics :white:

that would be cool. The OGs are in Asia. The more Asian teams there the merrier. FIVB probably thought this through thoroughly.
