Nation League Man 2023

  • Poland has so many good OHs, even player like Bednorz who won the CL last month would get cut for big tournament in NT. At the same time, they really lack of Opp. Kurek‘s attack has declined a lot and he's getting older and older season after season. He might totally blacked out again in knockout phrase in big tournament. To make it worse, Poland seems struggle to find any prospect in Opp. No doubt Girbic will bring Kaczmarek to be the backup Opp who is very limited in attacking.

I think this problem might hurt Poland's chance to win gold for the next few years until thing changed. Italy went through the same drought in Opp two years ago and then bang! De Giogio discovered the hidden talent Romano and won two golds.

  • We're just out of shape right now as a team, so it's hard to draw any conclusions besides Grbic being really questionable on several areas as a coach - some of his choices are surreal, almost all players but Kochanowski look out of shape. A year ago, Kurek was great in both QF and SF at the WCH, so we'll see what he has to offer now. Dulski (2002) is a legit talent, but it's too early for him before Paris to make it happen.

But still, considering Zaksa has won 3xCL with local spikers, it's more about optimizing the potential rather than specific names. Grbic works for a second year and he still hasn't optimized anything, even during WCH we were playing at like 70-80% of potential, with lucky win over Brazil in the semifinal.

  • Otavio, Felipe Roque and Arthur as starters please. What a handsome team

  • I wasn't expecting more from this team with this dumb coach but 2 W and 6L is indeed terrible. and now people are realizing this guy sucks and it's still too early to trust a local coach to handle the NT. with some minor changes Iran could take more wins and lose less ranking points but not with this guy :wall:

but there is a good chance Iran's results in the next week won't be counted toward the ranking (because the team will be somehow incomplete). apparently IRIVF and FIVB reached an agreement (at least that's what IRIVF claims, yet to see the confirmation from FIVB) that Iran will send the team to USA under this condition. (IRIVF was about to boycott the last week for the reason everybody knows)

considering the poor performance so far, that would be blessing in disguise not losing more ranking points ^^ but who knows without this so-called "coach" we might end up winning some matches and regret this settlement :D

At lease, Iran got to practise young players.

  • The fight for staying in the VNL is not over yet. If Iran can't send their best roster to the USA in week 3, Cuba and Bulgaria really have a chance to win against Iran. Also, considering the situation of Germany, both teams have chance to beat Germany too.

In week 3, Canada and China will face each other in the last match. It would be a deciding match for the last place as well.

  • Not the best way for Italy to finish off the week. Yes, Poland had something to prove after a tough loss against the USA and had more motivation after last year, but I think we could have done a bit better. Out of all the issues, serving was the main one: it dropped drastically comparing to the previous games.

It wasn't Giannelli (some of his choices at the the second set were costly considering how important it turned out to be) and Michieletto best day too, but I saw a better Lavia and that's important for the next tournaments.

  • Anton Brehme with an incredible 17/18 = 94% in attack but still Germany managed to lose against China :gone:

German team is now on last position in the table. It is another Desaster for the rather weak German federation DVV.
