FIVB World Cup 2019 - Sept. 14 to 29, Japan

  • That wasn't so bad. Japan's playing without their two best scorers but they keep playing like they have them. Their kill % is negative, I think :)

  • Yuki and Risa are great players but being a top scorer is not part of their job. I'll bet Koga took more swings in the first set than both middle blockers took all night. Gotta work on that

  • Koga 18, Middle blockers 21

  • Brazil. Still in medal contention

Still open, and more than others, much depends on the Russian team performance. And BRA's last match is against RUS. At present CHN-USA-RUS are the most likely medal winners.

  • "We will decide which team will get the runner-up after the Russian matches with the Netherlands and the US team. The Russian team will play against the Dutch team on 24 Sep. If Russian team can defeat the Dutch team, then the Russian team will compete with the US team for the second place." - Russian media 2019.9.23

  • And worst of all, the team has a low quality head coach who cannot really coach, unable to formulate the right strategy and adapt it successively on court, just follow the footstep of his mentor, KK. Now imagine NED has a top quality coach like Terzic, Gui, Lang Ping, or even Roberto Ze.

I want to copy and paste it here. Now imagine;) Rus has a top quality coach like Terzic, Gui, Lang Ping, etc. + players like Koshe, Shcherban, Lyubushkina, Stolyarova, Bavykina, Kutyukova, Khodunova, Malova etc (are missed), + we have rising stars like Kadochkina, Brovkina, Federotseva, Kochurina, Pushina, Kotikova, etc:gone:

Btw if the Russian team succeeds to obtain the Silver medal in this World Cup, there can be a good chance that the current Italian coach who loves Russia and speaks good Russian, Sergio Busato, be awarded contract from interim to (permanent) head coach of the Russian team. He somehow has good chemistry with the team, even better compared to the Russian coaches: Marichev and Pankov.

I would feel betrayed if Terzic quit on Serbia to coach Russia.

Russia should go for Santarelli or Lavarini.

  • Russia’s schedule is worse for finish with USA and BRA to play.

USA had Korea and Cameroon after RUS.

USA could lose and still comeback in front of Russia with loss to Brazil.

If Russia lose to USA, then for sure we will have a bomb of a match on the very last day RUSxBRA how more classic can it get two teams with great rivalry:box:

  • 2019 FIVB World Cup organizer awards generous prize money to players

Just like in any sports, Volleyball players compete for their national teams as an act of honor. But, of course, they expect a compensation fee for playing because it is guaranteed to them by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) who distributes money to national federations. Players will now have an extra motive to play in the FIVB World Cup...

As Gian Luca Pasini informed in his blog, the organizer of the upcoming World Cup, both in male and female competition, and that is Japan, will offer generous prize money to players. The total prize money is the same as in the FIVB Nations League, 2,110,000 US Dollars, and will be equally divided between both genders. But unlike the VNL, it will be mostly divided among players and not among national federations.

The FIVB has decided that federation will get rewards only as reimbursement of expenses, while the majority of the money is left to the athletes. But, the money will be spread among players via federations. The distribution of the prize money will be made as follows:

    1st place – $600,000 for players; $30,000 for federation

    2nd place – $300,000 for players; $15,000 for federation

    3rd place – $100,000 for players; $10,000 for federation

  • The relevant Medal Race matches in the last leg, Osaka:

    27/9:

    China v Netherlands

    Russia v USA

    South Korea v Brazil

    Dominican Republic v Netherlands

    China v Serbia

    29/9:
