2023 Women's Volleyball Nations League

  • Plus nobody cares about VNLThe VNL gets to show case the top

Is there still prize money involved? VNL used to be popular before the COVID pandemic than now - lesser audience now both in the area and over the air (broadcast. VNL is the place where potential great players and great players get to show themselves to the world. So much better if there is money involved, who does not want money. For lesser known players, getting the money is a huge incentive to want to play in the tournament. Top players might not get fired up to play, they play for the national pride. The schedule is gruesome to players. Top players those earning lots of money and it is not really worth it to take parti since they might get injured for this tournament with less reward I.e. the prize money (1st place) the player might get $60,000 but got injured and have to be sideline from playing pro tournaments when he/she getting at least say half a million US dollars yearly.. This is probably the reason some top players (especially if one is from the 🇨🇳NT who have to play in every match though they don’t have a choice because the coach cares more of the rankings than the players well beings / health.) don’t want to play the VNL from the beginning to the end of the tournament.

  • Nationality cannot be bought in the market as if it was an apple or a tomato.

Leon at least was married with a Polish woman..same as Tay Agüero who had an Italian husband and an Italian child ... but Vargas' connection with Turkey is only money. Her naturalization is something unacceptable.

Did Osmany Juantorena have an Italian wife or Carolina Costagrande have an Italian husband and Italian child? lol

This is just complete nonsense and it’s so pointless to continue all these “discussions”

  • Vargas has Turkish origin from 12th century.:thumbup:

  • Vargas' connection with Turkey is only money.

This is a statement that must be confirmed, with official sources...

vargas has been in Turkey for over 5 years and had to wait two years to obtain citizenship and, as per the regulation, another two to be able to represent the nation. ..

Do we know anything about his private life? Maybe he has a Turkish boyfriend or girlfriend: what do we know?

Seeing how she is treated by her teammates, she seems anything but a foreign body put there just to win a medal...

It seems to me a pretty strong statement to make without being able to prove anything...

Juantorena actually had Italian wife (they divorced after some time), but it's completely irrelevant. But maybe I'm missing something and FIPAV did send back those completely undeserved Olympic medals and ECH trophies won thanks to naturalized players.

It's up to Vargas whether she really feels attached to Turkey as a country, I don't think we have any knowledge that she doesn't.

Agree second to that. Cannot blame the player because of the financial reason. Allowing naturalized players to play for the NT should not be permitted in any sports at any tournaments where it’s nation vs another nation sports competitions. Countries like those in Middle East have naturalized players to play for them which we know money is the core reason. In basketball, there are many cases of naturalized players but those players are not the elite ones and these players are because of their height which height in this sports is a requirement to be competitive and these countries hardly have this kind of people who got the height.

Vargas is married with a girl...idk if cuban but latinamerican

  • sportsmanship is part of the package attributed to athletes. and as much as Ebrar has skills, she's really hard to like personality wise. I can think of other athletes who do staredowns in court but manage to keep it below trashy. Ebrar is just plain rude.

  • what you mean serbia for sure, did we missed some cubanian or russian or something like that playing for serbia

    Carolina Costagrande's grandparents were Italians.

Anyway to me naturalization in sports should never exist. Agüero and Costagrande represented Italy NT and contributed to many of the Italian victories, but I've never really considered them as Italian players. I agree with granting them the right of having Italian passport and citizenship, but as sport athletes they should remain Cuban and Argentinian since they were born in those countries and have grown up there.

Vargas's story is even more unacceptable because she has no connection at all with Turkey except $ .

  • Read an article before about a very talented player in 🇨🇳🏐 who was rude and treated a woman who worked (cleaning person) in the facility of their training I.e. shouted at her or something, Lang Ping kicked her out from the NT squad. In 🇨🇳🏐 roster, the players should behave and get along or else he/ she will be excluded no matter how good one is. Here is another one, there was also a very tall 🇨🇳🏐girl who went to play for a 🇯🇵 team, she even changed her name to a Japanese name. She was not good and was bench a lot ( I am not sure), she wanted to go back to China, but China would not take her back. Don’t know she got naturalized or not.

Melissa is married with a Cuban girl from about 3/4 years.

Melissa has also a Serbian passport!!!:lol::lol:

  • OK guys, that’s enough. I’m sure we all know all the different arguments for and against naturalisation by now and we all have our own opinions. Anyway, this is the VNL thread and should be used to discuss actual volleyball, so let’s get back to that.

  • i'm really agree if Melissa Vargas can finally played with a competitive national team, it was very sad not to have a strong player in important vollyball tournaments. now she can have this opportunity and certainly for the show will be very interesting to see her with the Turkish team!!!

  • I see what you are trying, but Vargas impact cannot be understated.

Germany and Netherlands are playing without OPP. If they had Vargas they would ascend to final 4 team also.

I get your point, but Germany doesnt really need to naturalize an OPP anyway. Everything Germany has to do is to convince a citizen or their own country (Lippmann) to play for them and then they will be more competitive without the addition of steroids. Although no Egonu, Lippmann is miles ahead of the current options at the position. All of the teams in final four have a very strong OPP, hence this resource or asset cannot be underestimated. It is the x-factor which not rarely determines the outcome at this level. But only Stefan and Matthias and perhaps some fellows could provide us with an hint of how likely it is of a comeback for Lippmann. Angelina Grun retired from indoors for some years, but then she made a comeback again some years later, so its surely not an impossible scenario in that sense.

i want Louiza Lippmann back playing for Germany, and also Kozuch will be a good option!!!

Kozuch is 36, hasn't played indoor for ages and wasn't great even in her best years. Lippmann is completely involved in beach volley and aims for OG 2024 with Laura Ludwig, so until then there is zero chance she'll come back to indoor.
