Challenge Cup 2024

  • Nilufer lost against Nantes 3:0.

Turkish middle level teams were never this weak and had so weak results outside CL :S.

Nantes is number 1 in french league who lost only one game so far whereas nilüfer is only 8th place in sultanlar ligi and they can easily end up 10th in a week since Çukurova and Aydın is just behind them. What do you conclude by comparing apples and pears?🤦 And as volleySrb mentioned already, the hypocrisy is you forget that Chieri who is 5th in Serie a, barely won 13-15 in tiebreaker set against Volero who is 7th in French league. And why the hell didnt you conclude anything bad from this for serie a?:aww: you have serious problems with turkey but couldn't still figure out where this butthurt comes from

Volero Le Cannet can be pretty dangerous on good days by the way.

  • Wiesbaden seems to have illusions regarding their chances against Novara - I guess they lack experience against Italian top teams. They will be grounded pretty quickly today IMHO.

Novaea have some missing players and I remember they almost lost in past games

Novara barely beat Vilsbiburg in WEVZA Cup at the beginning of the season to even qualify for Challenge Cup and IMO Wiesbaden is stronger than Vilsbiburg. Still on a normal day Novara is the clear favourite even without Bosetti and possibly some others.

  • Wiesbaden was leading 22:14 and 23:17 and eventually lost the second set 28:30 :wavy:

  • Novara won 3:1, even without two players from starting six.

Btw this German team kick out Galatasaray from CEV competition.

  • Novara with a serious approach shouldn`t lose a set single in this cup. I can see that they play with minimal commitment. However, what I have observed recently is that Bonifacio is performing better than Danesi and Chirichella also in the league. I wonder if Bonifacio will be called up to the VNL national team?

This is bullshit, Novara win nothing in last 5 seasons. This cup is important for them.

  • Maybe they feel so confident that they think they will win anyway. It's working for now because in most matches they start playing better at the end and they win. Let's be honest, clubs from Germany, France and Greece aren`t serious opponents. Only clubs from Turkey (those from the middle of the table) and possibly Poland have single stars in their rosters, e.g. Chemik.

If I were just a tiny bit less lazy, I'd now research all the times Italian clubs lost CL matches to German clubs in the last few years

  • In the knockout phase matches, only Busto was eliminated against Stuttgart in the Cev Cup two years ago. Perhaps there were some single defeats in the Champions League group matches. German clubs don`t have high budgets to bring in stars or don`t they have a large pool of players of their own. I am also surprised that such a rich country invests so little money in club sports and, for example, is unable to beat the offer from Turkey or Poland. The same thing happens, for example, in football, where only Bayern is competitive and the rest of the clubs have to sell their best players to England.

Well I wish Germany would have stronger League and attract Top players,

But in Turkey the Clubs are paying for taxes 0 money (or just some money the big clubs) and in Germany,France you just can’t get away from this you pay a lot of money.

In Turkey you get a lot of money from the government-municipalities but in Germany all the budgets are private (sponsors).

In Germany and France when a player sign a contract it’s safe that will receive all the money even if a club get bankrupt…There are lows that protect the rights of the worker.

In Turkey and Italy check how many players change during the season get fired etc?

You can be sure they don’t receive all their salaries.

In Germany darts are having higher numbers on Tv than volleyball and is not very attractive for sponsors.

But I have to say all the gyms are full something you can’t find in other Leagues…

  • I feel though like in places like Germany the sport is more based on circles of communities and more as a fun activity than a serious career (on average) for all. It does get more professional as the level increases.

IDK about Italy, but in places like Turkey and Serbia it's really immediately an extremely professional and serious setting from a youth setting and generally no one knows each other prior to let's say entering VB Youth Academy with minor cases of riggory excluded 😂

When it comes to the leagues the Turkish league has kind of a unity among teams where all of them work together for the greater good of the Turkish league and TR volleyball (remember Vakif sponsoring the entire league 😂) Some privately owned teams that are somewhat against this system generally end up being the ones not following curriculum and paying out their players because their private funds decide to cut funds out of changed interests...

My idea: At least for our area a kind of socialist system works much better imo and with the general success of the teams not bad in general.

  • I think people in developed countries like Germany, Netherlands are more reluctant to commit a professional sports career since they can get financially very well paid contracts with 'normal jobs'. It's a bit different for countries like turkey or Serbia where financially it is harder to get very well paid jobs, then pursuing a sport career becomes more attractive and sometimes the only choice for some people to have a well paid job. That's also one of the reasons why most American players don't choose a professional volleyball career. They can get very well paid jobs with their nice college degrees. I'm talking about mid range players of course, top players are very well paid in a club career

True though in the case of USA, their college system is just superior compared to the Western European club system let's be real, it even produces more players than China, Turkey, Serbia, Russia etc. I guess its really about what system works best depending on each countries' socio-economic and cultural situation. Living in Western Europe, I can say, it's nice to have a lot of reach for every sport but most organizations are actually kind of unorganized and unprofessional, the section between amateur and professionals is very strong in all of USA, Turkey, Serbia, Russia, China etc. and I wish some of it improved here as well. I honestly sometimes can't tell how people jump from amateur to pro level over here ahaha.
