2014 FIVB World Championship - Italy - 9/23

  • of the above, does anyone know who are not born in AZE? i know rahimova is ukrainian like mammadova, and aghayeva is slovak.

From their names you can see many of them actually are not born in Azerbaijan.

born in Azerbaijan: Oksana-Yelen Parkhomenko, Natavan Gasimova, Ayshan Abdulazimova, Aynur Karimova, Jeyran Aliyea, Oksana Kiselyova.

Odina Bayramova was born in Uzbekistan, she is married with Azerbaijan volleyball player from men NT.

Kseniya Kovolenko was born in Belarussia. Actually she came to Azerbaijan to play basketball, but someone told her volleyball will suit you more. She was married to Azerbaijan volleyball player, but they got divorced and they have 1 daughter.

Jana as you told is slovak . Anastasiya Gurbanoca was born in Tatarstan , Russia. Jana and Anastasiya played together in USA.

Polina was born in Uzbekistan, but she is ukranian. The rest also ukranian- Katherina Zhidkova Krystyna Yagubova, Yelizaveta Samadova, ( last 2 were naturalized by Rabita)

This is kind of CIS team, not Azerbaijan NT :aww:

  • Croatian roster for WCH

    Opp: Samanta Fabris, Sanja Popovic
    S :Ana Grbac, Bernarda Brcic
OH: Jerkov, Senna Usic, Karla Klaric, Jelena Alajbeg
MB: Poljak (c), Miloš, Cutuk, Kaleb
    L: Jelic, Marija Usic

  • According to the news from the Chinese media, the Dominican roster for WCH is:

OH: De La Cruz, Prisilla Rivera Brens, Yonkaira Paola Pena Isabel, Ana Yorkira Binet Stephens
MB: Annerys Victoria Vargas Valdez, Candida Estefany Arias Perez, Winifer Maria Fernandez Perez
OP: Gina Altagracia Mambru Casilla, Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez
Setter: Niverka Dharlenis Marte Frica, Rosalin Angeles Rojas
    L: Brenda Castillo

Winifer Fernandez is L, so the 3rd MB should be Marianne Fersola. Same roster that played the friendly match in Serbia this week.

Agree, Fersola is probably here instead of Fernandez as in last firendly game ;D

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • So missing rosters are: Tunisia, Cameroon, Mexico, Cuba, Azerbaijan and Thailand (but here the most likely is 12 from AVC Cup :wavy: )

I made a guess for both Mexico and Cuba in PG thread, more or less likely rosters are there. Cameroon and Azerbaijan have to cut 1 or 3 players.
The only bigger mystery is Tunisia - all players are unknown

Glad to hear that.. If you come across some video or link to interview with the girls especially Senna can you post it here? Thanks :D

  • Let's begin the show on Tuesday :D we've just after male's game with beautiful victory by host :D I wonder who will get this title. Brazil seems to be main contender and should be stronger than their male equivalent :wavy:

  • Heihei, my mistake :cheesy: . Fersola is the 3rd MB and they have only Castillo as the libero. Here is the picture for their roster:

  • It must be a big pain for such players like Fiorin who has been the last cut even twice...but I think it's a fare decision having 3 setters in stead of having one more OH who won't have many chances to play.

Italy must be the oldest team among all. Piccinini and Lo bianco 35, Del core and Costa 34, Centoni 33, Cardullo 32, Ferretti 30.

In average Brazil is the oldest team actually...cause Italy have a lot of older players, but they also have a lot of quite young ones...anyway, both are probably the most experienced ones...

EDIT: just like to make an edition, cause when I did the age ave. I only had the 22 players list..so yes, indeed, in the 14 one, Italy has a bigger age ave. than Brazil..by few months, but still. ;)

Like most of you, I think no way Brazil will lose this WCH....they are jsut the most prepared and experienced team right now in the world....they have quality players, and they are playing together for so many years....all you need to be champion...while other teams, though many have very good players....they still havent find the best shape...or the right experience..many giving space for younger players...so...really it will be a big shock for me if Brazil lose this.

  • Well, there are so many matches in this tournament that it's well possible that some teams will find their forms along the way, while others will lose it. Brazil is clearly the favorite, but I want to see everyone play first and then comment.

I think it's going to be an exciting tournament, let's hope the quality of play will be high and the atmosphere at least half as good as the polish one.

  • Brazil is far away from being a clear favourite to be champion.Their name doesnt mean they r the best, they r beatable team and russia can do it with gamova-kosheleva duo more easier than most users think.
I hope a very enjoyable tournament and for sure good results for germany, turkey and belgium.Especially after germany took bronze medal in men now its time a medal for women NT with guidetti's leadership, they have enough talent for this :win:

In average, Italy is the oldest team (counting all the 14 players or even only counting the starting 7).

i'm still optimistic with my Team i really hope they can reach the finals and eventually win again
with Gamova back in the team and..i do really hope that Marichev did some magic on the :super: in the past 3 weeks..... :super: :drink:

Here's my prediction: If Russia reaches the Finals, and that is a big IF, they will most likely win the tournament (whether facing Brazil or not). However the last time Russia reached a Finals match in a major tournament (except EC 2013) was in WCH 2010 correct me if I'm wrong, that says a lot
