2020 Olympic Games - qualification

  • Poland will be crushed by Serbia tomorrow, they can't even handle Thailand's serve.:gone:

Serbia is not doing so great this tournament too, it is only Boskovic who is in beast mode, Brankica is no where to be found yet, i think Poland X Serbia will be a really open game and both has the same chances to win imo

  • Suprisingly in the Poland - Thailand match there will be a tie break. I expected Poland to win 3:0 but they are having so many problems and Onuma is playing amazing. I hope we can win in the 5th set.

For me it was the best game of the year 😍 Many strong spikes, good defense. I'm really happy for Onuma, finally she played very good game. Also the duo of Pornpun and Nootsara was amazing today ❤️And Chatchu-on with many good spikes ❤️

Plus, it was nice to see Thatdao back in NT.

I think Pornpun is amazing. Thailand have great setters. Good that Poland managed to win even though Smarzek wasnt playing well today.

  • Mędrzyk saved us today, 22 points

Also is a pleasure to look how Alagierska is becoming better and better, she is arleady decent middle who is ready to play in strong league.

  • You Serbia watchers certainly know better than I do but I don't think they are looking bad or dumb. Just not as beastly as they can be yet except for Bosko. Brankica is playing smart but isn't making big kills. She gets dug a lot. I think Serbia will coast over POL tomorrow.

  • I dont agree with... as I wrote before, Startseva's setting to Goncha was horrible at times. Fetisova and Maja did a great job in D.Moscow last year, but Startseva's setting to Fetisova was horrible today, and I honestly dont think Fetisova and Parubets are out of shape. Their horrible performances depend entirely on the setter IMO.

As I wrote before, Startseva is too slow and that's why they play "slow Russian volleyball". Btw, I didnt see any connection between Startseva and Koroleva today tbh.

I don't think Startseva is a slow setter. The nature of russian volleyball is just ingrained with their DNA and that's something only the young players could maybe surpass one day and not the old.

Great defense and passing is necessary with fast volleyball. If one is lacking, this won't do against teams who are used to the speed like USA and Brazil with adequate block too.

Emil I'm not gonna judge Zhenya but her horrible setting to Khoduna ended up with injury last year. Her overusing Goncharova against USA was a similar scenario to me. When Zhenya in, honestly I think Parubets will be useless in attack. I checked her statistics it was really horrible 5/18:what:. She never had such a performance in Uralochka. Zhenya is too slow and her style is not proper for Parubets IMO.

Sometimes injuries are inevitable. It's true that setters could trigger it but a spiker always have a choice to prevent it as speed is increasingly being incorporated and the physique sometimes are not able to withstand their own momentum.

I thought Goncharova's injury was self-inflicted and from her interview it was her left arm during defensive phase. Maybe I got the wrong info or something.

  • Italian MBs are doing great job, Christina is playing very good I'm surprised, and Folie great as always

  • I have to admit Christina raised her level compared to league season

She probably read my granny is better than her comments here and decided to snapped in time for OQT. :gone:

Nah. She responded to all the love I’ve been giving her:super:

  • I remember that Startseva provided fast setting to Larson and Del Core when they played in Dinamo Kazan. She is not the most spectacular setter but she is technically a good one IMO. She had also won some important titles in her career.

Startseva is maybe not the best setter on earth but she proved many times that she is the best Russian setter and I have not seen anyone close to getting her spot yet. We saw many alternatives like Kosianenko, Babeshina etc and the Russian NT never performed as good as when Startseva is setting.

  • USA not playing so well. What I don't like about Drews is that she can't mix it up, when it comes to attack. If she cannot pass the block hitting hard, she tries hitting harder.. it would be nice to see an off speed shot, tip, from time to time.. it would also give the opposition something to think about. Also Courtney is really unstable, not only defending, but passing too. She's even struggling to set the second ball. Larson solid so far, taking aggressive swings. Carlini great floor coverage
